Hey everyone!

My name is Chris, I'm new to the FDL area (and of course the FDLLUG), and I wanted to introduce myself to the group. Now, I was talking to Tim and he tells me that the group is not as active as it once was. I'd like to change that!

If anyone is still around, I'd really appreciate it if you'd pop in and say hello.

Hey Chris!

What brings you to Fond du Lac?  And from where?

I grew up here, spent a couple years in other WI cities and now I'm back!  I do IT work at the library.

J,

I just started (September) working here in town. I'm a SysAdmin at a non-profit downtown.

Before FDL I was in Appleton working at a big managed service provider. (I grew up in Marinette, went to school in GB, and now I'm here.)

Cool.  Well, we're both downtown.  We should have lunch sometime.

I'm happy to see the list active again! I live up in Oshkosh but I work down here at Mercury in IT. I don't work much with Linux these days as I am usually knee-deep in Cisco switches.

Welcome to Fond du Lac!

That'd be great! You'll have to recommend a place as I'm not very familiar with the local restaurants. (Other than The Coliseum, Bagelmeister, and Sal's Pizza)

Funny enough, I actually had the opposite happen. I was doing most network engineering (I'm only a lowly CCNA) and then moved to an all-Linux environment.

Thanks for the warm welcome Nick!

I owe my paranoia about encroachments of the surveillance state upon
individual liberties and freedom of expression to my participation in
FDLLUG. Have I said too much?

Friend me (pseudonym Manuel Davis) on RetroShare:
http://retroshare.sourceforge.net/

... and, if you don't trust SourceForge (and nobody does any more),
then I guess we'll just have to call a meeting and pass around thumb
drives.

... but seerwiously, the setup.exe's that you download from
SourceForge may have been corrupted by SourceForge to include ad-ware,
so execute them with caution -- preferably in a throw-away
environment. Also, the download pages themselves may pitch a lot of
ad-ware pop-ups at you and lead you away from downloading what you
think you're downloading to downloading something else.

Hey Chuck!

Retroshare seems pretty interesting! I had some free time so I built it from source (can't have those modified binaries!) this morning. I added my PGP cert in your dedicated post about Retroshare.

I tried to add you, but I'm guessing your DHT is disabled or you're offline for the time being. Feel free to add me and we can chit-chat some more!
