Guys

I did my first HD partition the other day. Installed the OS and rebooted the puter. No boot. I did some reading and I think I damaged/destroyed my MBR.

If I run the live DVD of the OS with the HD in place , the DVD spins and does nothing (blackscreen) If I take the HD out of the puter the DVD spins and I get the live OS on the screen!

I hope some one has the cure for this.

Sounds like your HDD is toast.

... so did you go into the BIOS and disable the HDD boot? If that
doesn't fix it, then possibly the HDD really IS locking up the boot
process. You can try excluding the drive from the BIOS probe. I've
put IDE cables on backwards and that causes it. Presumably, defective
cables, HDDs, and motherboards do, too, but the likely culprit is
strapping two master devices on the same IDE cable, but you're
probably using SATA drives, so none of that applies. Does LiveCD see
the HDD? Maybe you can repartition, reformat, reinstall Linux, and
write a new bootloader to the HDD. Is this a multi-boot situation?

I have done nothing yet!  The live DVD does nothing except spin a few times.  (black screen)  I was hoping that a could repartition the HDD with the live DVD but it does nothing.

It is a Seagate Barracuda 160 gig, use it for "testing" only.  Bill
