Hello everyone,

I am traveling to Las Vegas this weekend for work and need to do a
long run. I am staying near the Hilton on Paradise drive off the
strip. Does any one have any good routes in that area. I am looking to
do 16 miles.

Also, what is the safety around the strip in the early morning hours?
(~5AM)

Hi Eric

I was in Vegas twice last year January and August

In Jan we stayed at the Mandalay Bay and I just ran the strip and back for about 8-9 miles. It was cold in the mornings, think, hat gloves and tights cold. In August we stayed south of the strip, not off strip more like end strip, look up Tahiti Village, from there to the Stratosphere and back was a little over 14 miles, I ran it 3-4 days during the week at varying times, not on the weekend though, Never any problems from a safety perspective, some of the crossings were interesting elevated walkways etc but that's just a mini stair climb I guess,

Even though it was hot, 95f at the peak, it worked really well during that time of year, I got the occasional blast of AC and I was able to top up my handheld bottles from the fast food places aith cold water and stuff ice down my arm sleeves and put some under my hat, there's a Carls Jr in the North and a McDonalds in the South...I always knew they would be good for something.

Hope that helps

Eric,

I went to Vegas twice last year and ran a few times.

I tried to run once on the strip, but there were too many pedestrians,
so it was difficult to get a steady pace going. I did venture off the
strip to do a 5-6 miler, and I felt safe, but at 5am I would
definitely be careful. I stayed across the parking lot from where you
will be, and there are some not so nice areas north of there, so you
definitely want to be careful. I remember asking the front desk where
I should run. Most hotels have an immediate answer, however, in Vegas
they kind of shrug their shoulders.

I'm guessing your best bet for a long run like that is to find a local
running group. It may involve a drive (or cab), but at least you
could feel confident and safe. I'm sure there are some naturally
pretty areas out there.

Hope this helps!
