I have been speaking with Dr. Jensen about transfers and overnight cares. Here’s a summary of where we are:
1. They prefer to have us bill the client directly from here on out for all cases, whether overnight care or regular transfers. We used to do this for Banfield, so for now I said ok.
2. She will make sure her docs continue to call us prior to the case coming so that we can get a feel for if it would qualify for an overnight care or not and pass along a rough estimate for them to give the clients.
3. They have had problems with cases coming back to them where a doc has called early am for an update and the phone rolls to VM or the pet arrives at their hospital and they don’t have any of the records. Best for them is to get the record e-mailed. As a default, I suggest it’s always a good idea to send hard copies in case the morning is busy and Client Care is behind sending records.
4. They enjoy collaborating with our hospital. They don’t want confusion about our program to get in the way of that.
And here is an update on overnight care in general for all hospitals and specifics for Wellington right now:
1. I am re-writing the program by the end of the month. Please continue to run the program with all our other hospitals the same as we always have until I send out the plan and announce it to rDVMs
2. For Wellington clients right now – if their pet qualifies for overnight care based on info taken from the Wellington vet, we can provide a verbal estimate to the Wellington doc and then type up a written estimate for the owner to sign when they arrive. For right now we will honor our current prices, but please add a 100 miscellaneous (or more if appropriate) for clients to sign off on (or verbally approve over the phone if tech delivers the case). Go ahead and take a deposit. We are likely going to change to a client pay discounted, stable patient program and prices will go up, but I don’t want to confuse things yet. Continue to counsel wellington vets for cases you think are overnight care qualified on what items they should send.
