Dear TABLE members,

A few academics in Argentina in partnership with a charitable organization there are planning to give a presentation in a university in Argentina (and possibly start offering training) for public health professionals in that country on the importance of plant-based diet.

The topic of plant-based diet's importance for public health has very poor understanding and visibility among nutrition professionals, academics, and society at large in Argentina. So it is essential to get some kind of "endorsement" of the benefit of plant-based diet from someone associated with institutions that are well-respected in Argentina such as the WHO, PAHO, FAO, nutrition organizations in Latin America, etc. Otherwise the presentation and training will not have credibility and not attract interest from public health professionals there.

I am asking for suggestions on behalf of these academics in Argentina. Most grateful for any information, leads, and contacts anyone can offer!

With thanks and best wishes,

Carmen

Dear Carmen,

Dr. Montiero might be a very promising resource in this context. He's published extensively on related matters over many years.

Carmen and others,
Congratulations to the Argentinian academics and their colleagues for wanting to increase awareness among food professionals about the crucial need for more plant-based eating.   They've got an uphill battle in their nation.
They might be interested in the latest official dietary recommendations in Canada, https://food-guide.canada.ca/en/, which relegate meat and dairy to the side of the plate -- or off it altogether.  Leading up to development of the revised guidelines, apparently our courageous federal Minister of Health forbade her top bureaucrats from holding the usual closed-door meetings with meat, dairy, and processed-food lobbyists.  So govt ended up going with the science, and recommending healthy and sustainable diets.
Good luck to your colleagues.
