Happy New Year!
As we head into 2008, we have many great things to look forward to this year. New exhibits, new volunteers, new artifacts and more.
I have spent a lot of time thinking about the concept of “Paying it Forward” and this is what I ask of each of you. I ask in 2008 that we each find a few ways to pay it forward in the community with regards to the museum. Here are some ideas to get you started:
· Ask 3 friends to join you at the next museum event, class or meeting · Share 3 positive stories with friends about what’s going on at the museum · Keep your eye out for 3 historical treasures, and ask their owners to consider donating them the museum · Ask 3 friends to write down their family history, anecdotes and stories and bring them in to be stored at the museum · Invite 3 people to come volunteer! Upcoming Volunteer Opportunities· JANUARY 3rd 10AM– We need volunteers to attend the artifact committee meeting to give recommendations and input regarding which objects join the museum’s collections · JANUARY 8th 4PM – Volunteer training to help with artifact inventory, temporary custody, identification, photography and more! · Week of Jan. 14th TBD – We need a few people to help out in moving large, heavy artifacts (with equipment) from downstairs to upstairs, and the last few items from the warehouse. · TBD – The Pioneer Museum will be receiving a load of steel shelves for its archives and library. We will need help setting these up when they are delivered (hopefully around 1/7) · TBD – Help construct saddle storage in the workshop areas · ON-GOING – We are looking for recommendations for good local books, artists and more to help in setting up our gift shop.
