6 - In Memoriam…The Rev. Eson Y.S. Tse April 30, 1925 - February 14, 2015. It is with great sadness that we announce the death of the Rev. Eson Y.S. Tse (father of our presbytery's controller, Ruling Elder James Tse). Rev. Tse was born in Canton, China. He emigrated from Hong Kong where he was in ministry with the Chinese community. Rev. Tse served the First Chinese Presbyterian Church in Chinatown from 1964 through 1979. He then organized a second Chinese Presbyterian Church in New York City Presbytery that became the Queens Chinese Presbyterian Church in Rego Park. Rev. Tse retired from active ministry in 1987. He is survived by his second wife Helen, his three sons, Peter, James, John and his first wife. A private service and internment will take place this week, with a Memorial Moment offered at the May 19, 2015 Presbytery Meeting. Condolences may be sent to his widow Helen Tse at 90-11 Northern Blvd, Unit 611, Jackson Heights, NY 11372.
7 - Leadership Development Day…hosted by the Committee on Congregational Ministry and Nurture (CM&N), serves to equip church members to serve Christ in their church and their community. This year Rev. E. Stanley Ott, will be the keynote speaker and will be leading a workshop entitled, "Small Congregations - Leadership Matters." Event will take place 2/28 at 8 am – 3 pm at Brick Presbyterian Church.
8 - The 2015 Churchwide Gathering of Presbyterian Women…will be held June 18–21, 2015 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The theme of the Gathering is “One Body, One Spirit,” based on 1 Corinthians 12:12–27. As always, workshops, plenary sessions, worship, mission opportunities, and all Gathering programming will explore the theme in the context of a diverse, faithful sisterhood. Registration for the event is just $395 (less than in 2012!), plus lodging and transportation. Are you ready to register? If so, visit the official Churchwide Gathering website:www.presbyterianwomen.org/gathering.
9 - Mini Children’s Sermons…will be given at every English worship service. Young children of the church are invited to come forward to hear this special message crafted especially for them. CEM would also like to remind parents that packets found in the foyer can be borrowed for their children to entertain themselves during the rest of the service. The kits include crayons and age-designated activity books to keep them occupied throughout the service.
