All,

I have been attending the monthly meeting of the Grassroots Radio Conference (GRC) ZOOM meetings.  It is a rather informal group and while they know that I am active at KKFI and FCM, I do not claim to represent KKFI or FCM.  The meetings are open to anyone interested in community radio and it includes high and low power,  college and online stations.  If you are interested in being put on their mailing list, contact Sharon Scott.

That said, I am forwarding the attached email in regard to this year's Grassroots Radio Conference which will be in New Orleans from Sept. 26-29, but most of the activities will be on the 27th and 28th.  This conference was held in Kansas City in 2011, I believe, so I am sending this info along in case anyone might be interested in going or sponsoring the conference again in the future.

I, also, think that the group is planning a nationwide tribute to Lisa Lopez-Galvan, so if you are interested in that, contact Sharon.  And, for your information, Sharon is the author of the book "Low Power FM for dummies".

Thanks!

Greg Swartz

Dear Community Radio Friends,

I am pleased to announce that the 2024 GRASSROOTS RADIO CONFERENCE is
headed to NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA!!!!  MARK YOUR CALENDARS FOR SEPTEMBER
26-29th.

Dr. MarkAlain Déry, Liana Elliot, and their team at WHIV 102.3 FM have
stepped up to the plate and will share the hosting responsibilites with
a consortium of college and community stations in the area including the
illustrious Bob Dunn and his crew at WXDR 99.1 FM.  Together they are
sure to knock out of the park!

This location was determined by default and by consensus during the
March Virtual GRC Meet-up.

It is hard to imagine anywhere better than the Crescent City for a
gathering of college and community radio activists -- the music, the
energy, the creativity -- all reflect the work we do in radio every
single day.

The dates for this year's conference are Sept. 26 - 29th.  Anyone with
an interest in community radio is invited to attend. There are will be
tracks for Station Managers, Engineers, and On-Air Talent.  This is the
only conference of its kind and a unique opportunity to connect with
some of the nation's most brilliant radio broadcasters.  Full Power, Low
Power, and online stations will emerge with information and inspiration
to make their local operations more interesting and effective that ever
before.

The conference location ~ Gallier Hall ~ is conveniently located on St.
Charles Ave. near the French Quarter and right on the street car line.
A conference hotel across the street is being arranged and we should
have further information on a group rate soon.  Stay tuned and mark your
calendars!

The hosting the GRC is a big job and collective effort.  Anyone wishing
to assist with the conference planning and development should please let
us know using the form below.  We know there is a lot of experience in
this group and we'd love to have your help ~ even from afar!

Coming off the heals of an AMAZING conference at WTSQ Charleston, the
GRC has gathered some great momentum and this event is sure to set it
all aflame! It is exciting to see the GRC coming back to life and
imagining where we can take this community radio movement from here!  No
stoppin' us now!!!

See you in New Orleans!

XOX,
SMS
