At Tampa Prep, we have traditionally give the PLAN (from ACT) to 9th graders and the PSAT to 10th and 11th graders. ACT is changing their offering from the PLAN to a new test. Given this change, we are reevaluating what we should do with our 9th graders. If you could take a couple of minutes to reply to the questions below, I really appreciate it. Thanks for your thoughts and feedback.

Best regards,
Carl

Standardized Testing for 9th Graders

1) Do you plan on giving some form of standardized test to your 9th graders?

2) If yes, what do you plan to offer?

3) Are you happy with this offering? Any comments pro or con?

Randy,

We use the PSAT for 9 as well as 10 and 11.  We decided that the band of students who really choose the ACT as “THE Test” is pretty narrow so we opted never to give the PLAN

Hi Carl,

We're in the same boat here at Shorecrest. We give the PLAN (just did so today) to ninth graders and will wait to see what the new test looks like.  It is apparently tailored for 7th, 8th, and 9th grades, so not sure of the value for the 9th graders. We do want to keep offering a pre-ACT test however as about half of our students end up taking the ACT.

Best regards,

Tom
