Dear fellow Upper School Administrators,

I hope you had a nice long MLK weekend and that the new year is off to a relatively incident-free start. This past fall I sent out an email asking if any of your schools might be willing to host a few Shorecrest teachers on February 13th. It is one of our professional development days and I have asked our teachers to go on a "school visit" to another top independent school.

We are undergoing a school-wide curricular review this year, and I thought it would be helpful if our teachers could visit with colleagues at other schools. The primary goal would be to generate ideas, but also hopefully to build some relationships with teachers at peer schools. I experienced this kind of exchange at my former school, where as a history teacher we visited another school as a department. I found it to be a tremendously rewarding professional development experience.

A few of you have already graciously offered to host some of our teachers (for which we are very thankful!), so this is a final email to to see if there are any other takers out there.  Some teachers are travelling south to Miami and over to the east coast, so distance may not be as much of an obstacle as you might think.
Ideally, a few of our teachers could visit a couple of classes in their respective disciplines at your school in the morning, and then have a little time (perhaps lunch?) to spend talking and sharing with members of that department.  Much of the conversation would likely be department/discipline specific about scope/sequence, but it might also include broader conversations about academic schedules, Advanced Placement questions, technology integration in the classroom, etc.  I imagine the questions would go both ways, sharing best practices and common issues.

If you are in session on Feb 13 and this fits with your schedule, let me know and I can have our department chairs connect with your department chairs. I think that this could be a mutually rewarding professional development experience.

Thank you for your consideration.

Tom

Unfortunately Palmer Trinity will not be in session on Feb 13.  Always interested in visits when possible.

Regards,

Ashley
