Crime Tip of the Week…

Are you expecting a package delivered today?

Package delivery theft is more prevalent during the holiday season, but it can happen any time of the year. Thieves are known to target a home after a delivery is made. They often follow or watch for delivery trucks, such as UPS, FedEx, US Mail and many other delivery services. Many of these crimes occur during daylight hours while you're away.

Reduce your chances of having your packages stolen by following these safety tips throughout the year.

Delivery Safety Tips:
*Choose a shipping option that requires a signature.
*Track delivery status online. Many retailers have this online feature and some will send an alert to your cell phone when items have been delivered. Arrange to have   your package shipped to another location where someone can receive it directly.
*If you know you will not be home to receive the package, leave a note with special instructions asking the delivery service to leave the package with a trusted
  neighbor.
*As a last resort, have the delivery service hold your package for customer pick-up.

Neighborhood Awareness about Package Thefts:
A suspicious person standing in front of a residence on a cell phone.
Vehicles circling a neighborhood and/or following delivery trucks.
Delivery personnel demanding that you open the door to receive your package.
Suspicious persons attempting to gain entry into a condo or apartment complex by posing as a delivery person.
Always look out for your neighbor and trust your "gut" instinct when it comes to suspicious situations or persons.

If you suspect criminal activity please contact the police by calling 9-1-1 immediately.
