Update on Forensic Fonts (TM) - Now Patent Pending

This month we have submitted patents on forensic fonts. The concept
arose out of legal cases in which testimony was unable to be properly
given as to what was in fact underlying a printout of what was
purported to be text files, and examinations in which output of things
like the "diff" command indicated that things that looked identical
were in fact not. While tools like "hexdump" ultimately allowed such
issues to be resolved for the examiner in the laboratory (with
significant time and effort), on the stand, there are no such tools
available. Previous printing technology automatically removes or
alters the appearance of things like spacing, blank lines, non-
printable characters, and similar things, while adding things like
newlines for wrap-around, and so forth. An updated version of FF that
produces PDF file output and makes many improvements to the previous
version is now available for download. Look for "Forensic Fonts" under
"What's New" at all.net.
