I have deleted a book from my SD card on my G1 Android phone. It
happened to be the last book I was reading. Now, every time I open
FBReader, it immediately crashes with the typical error message of,
"The application FBReader (process
org.geometerplus.zlibrary.ui.android) has stopped unexpectedly. Please
try again."

I have tried again, but I get the same error. I rebooted my phone, but
I get the same error message. I have deleted the cache files in
the .FBReader folder on my SD card, but I get the same error message.
I even renamed the .FBReader folder, but still getting the same error
message. FBReader is totally broken. I can't even navigate to the
individual .EPUB files on my SD card and run them in FBReader.

I noticed that there was a bug fix concerning this very issue for the
desktop version 0.8.17 on March 23, 2008.

What must I do to fix this annoying issue which totally keeps me from
using FBReader at all? Thank you.

I had a similar problem after reloading my library directory. What I
did to fix it was rename my library directory (Books) to Books.bak and
restarted fbreader. (Don't remember if I then re-created Books or if
fbreader created it for me when I restarted.) This re-created the
.fbreader cache directory. I copied the sub-directories from Books.bak
to Books and restarted fbreader. This time it was happy.

In my experience FBReader is not very good about detecting when its
cache is out of date.

You can accomplish the same thing by  plugging your phone into your computer with the USB cable and mounting the sd-card on the computer. Then turn on fbreader WHILE you are still plugged into the computer. This makes fbreader think your Books directory is gone.

When you unmount your phone from your computer, you'll have your library back and fbreader working.

Thanks for the replies. In the even that this happens again, I'll
remember your suggestions. I ended up just reinstalling the
application. That fixed the problem. I didn't even think to rename the
Books directory. That was the only thing I didn't think of doing.
Thanks again!

Hi,

Could you please reproduce the problem on new (0.5.21) version? In
this version it is possible to send me a crash report. I hope this
will be helpful to fix a bug.

Best,

Hi,

I didn't reproduce the problem however I received several related
exception reports and I hope the bug is now fixed. Please let me know
if the problem is still here.

WBR,
