I've upgraded recently to fbreader 8.12, and am having trouble reading
Project Gutenberg text documents. When I look at them on my computer
(Ubuntu Linux), they look like they should break paragraphs at empty
lines, but FBReader isn't doing that. I've tried numerous kinds of
encoding and using emacs to change the encoding to utf-8, but nothing
breaks the paragraphs right.

An example of a book that isn't being paragraphed correctly is
<http://www.gutenberg.org/dirs/4/47/47.txt>

Hi Laura,

please try new version 0.8.13 -- looks like your problem is now fixed.
Anyway, plain text is not very good format for FBReader, we recommend
to use more structured format instead. In the case of Project
Gutenberg documents, plucker variant of the document is available from
the same site. It may be displayed better in FBReader.

Nikolay:

Help! I just installed 0.8.13. When I open the application (fbreader), it loads but when it tries to open the book I was reading previously the application closes down and I'm thrown back to the main screen for my n800. I downloaded the version for the n800 with the 2008 upgrade.

There is no warning message at all.

Any idea what my problem might be? Could the upgrade have deleted the link to the ebook I was reading before I upgraded?

Thanks for your help.

Not sure about the message below. Did I write you with a problem? I don't remember. Perhaps it's my aging mind...

By the way, I very much appreciate the work you and your colleagues are putting into this ebook reader. It sure improves the quality of my life!

Laura,

sorry. It's really a problem. :(( I will fix it in a few hours, and
now 0.8.12 is available for download for maemo devices again:

Thanks, this seems to be true on the Ubuntu desktop. I'll wait for
the other problem to be fixed before trying it on the Nokia 770, where
it's mission critical.

Let me see if I understand what you're saying. When Project Gutenberg
gives me a set of choices like:

Format Alternate Sites
Text (505K) Ibiblio Archive.org Alaska
Zip (195K) Ibiblio Archive.org Alaska
Web presentation (527K) Ibiblio Archive.org Alaska
Zipped HTML (198K) Ibiblio Archive.org Alaska

you run plucker on the "Web presentation" choice?

I found as a workaround that fbreader would run on the "Zipped HTML"
choice without problems, so that's what I've done the last couple of
days.

Oops. I just go to http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/47 (in fact, I just
click the reference from your first message) -- and there is 5 format
variants:

> Formats Available For Download
> Format Encoding ¹ Compression Size Download Links
> Plucker none unknown main site
> HTML none 526 KB main site mirror sites P2P
> HTML zip 198 KB main site mirror sites P2P
> Plain text us-ascii none 505 KB main site mirror sites P2P
> Plain text us-ascii zip 194 KB main site mirror sites P2P

The first one is Plucker. ;)

I'm not sure it is available for all the Project Gutenberg books.
