Dear Falls Brook Centre Friends,
(apologies for cross-postings)
For the winter and spring of 2011, we are teaming up with local libraries, schools and community centres across New Brunswick to offer the “Skill-Building for Sustainable Communities” Workshop Series to all citizens who are interested in becoming active members of their communities.
This three-part series is free of charge and open to anyone who would like to build their interpersonal and group skills, with the goal of contributing more effectively to positive change in their communities. They were offered throughout the Saint John River Valley in 2009-2010, and are once again open to public in 2011. The three workshop themes are:
“Building Facilitation Skills”: The word “facilitate” means “to make easier”. Facilitators are neutral individuals who guide and monitor discussions in group meetings so that organizations are able to function effectively and have high-quality exchanges of ideas. Good facilitation skills can be essential to any group process, be it learning, decision-making, problem-solving, or skill-building.
“Understanding the Roots of Interpersonal Conflict”: Conflict between individuals spreads negativity into our lives and our communities. It can also stall progress by preventing collaboration and effective communication. This workshop will help participants identify and understand the unexpressed needs that are at the root of all conflict, working towards a meaningful resolution that meets everyone’s needs.
“Awakening your Inner Leader”: There are many types of leaders and multiple aspects of leadership. This workshop offers an experience that allows you to get to know and develop your own inner leader, by aligning your personal goals and learning about your own leadership style.
These workshops were developed in response to the question “what skills do people need in order to take action and make their communities more sustainable, vibrant, and economically viable?” Some of the most widely useful skills that were identified included: facilitating group processes, dealing with interpersonal conflicts that might be holding our entire team back, and becoming leaders by knowing our personal goals and values. These are skills that everyone can learn, and that hopefully everyone will find useful in both their professional and day-to-day lives.
Please see the dates, locations and contact information below. If you are interested in attending, PLEASE sign up in advance so we know how many people to plan for!
