The Multicultural Association of the Greater Moncton Area, Inc (MAGMA) and its partners will be holding a Refugee Rights Day Conference at the Moncton City Hall, from 6 till 8:00 pm, April 4th, 2006. From 5:00 till 6:00, information access tables and a potluck featuring international cuisine will be made available.
The Refugee Rights Day Conference: "Confronting Myths and Removing Barriers" will be held in commemoration of the April 4th, 1985 Supreme Court of Canada’s crucial ruling that made the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms protect the rights of refugee claimants in Canada. It was at this time that the court determined that the right to life, liberty, and the security of the person in accordance with the principals of fundamental justice apply to refugee claimants in Canada. This ruling was called the Singh decision. This is a pinnacle day for all Canadians. MAGMA challenges you to get informed. Join us on April 4th, 2006 and help make a difference.
