Hello,

I was able to download and test klink on my wifes Macbook and it
worked fine so I purchased the program and it continues to work on her
computer, but when I attempt to use it on my windows xp (32 bit) MSI
U120 it is able to view my phone, a Samsung Epic, but I am unable to
get any web pages to load.

Thus far I have attempted the uninstall/reinstall, put it in and out
of USB tethering, in and out of USB storage mode, ensured that my
device drivers were up to date with no yellow question marks in device
manager, enabled and disabled all of the network connections
separately and together, done everything I have seen in other forums,
but I still cannot get it functioning. At times I also received the
Error 14 but was able to resolve that. I have spent nearly 3 hrs
trying to get it working with no luck. Any help would be greatly
appreciated as I am most interested in using this on my computer when
I am on the road.

Thanks you!

Hi,

I'll give you a refund if we can't get something working.  Your configuration should work fine, though, so let's get to the bottom of this.  (Klink has plenty of Epic users and thousands of Galaxy S users; moreover, Windows XP is still very popular.)

It's actually a bit tricky for me, since you've been so thorough with your testing!

When Klink is connected to your XP machine, could you try visiting the following web page?

(That consists of ones and zeroes.)

You should see a little Klink logo.  Do you see that?

Next, could you try resetting the USB port on your phone?  (For anyone reading, these instructions probably only apply to Samsung devices!)  To do this:

  1. Unplug the USB cable
  2. On the cell phone, dial the following number: *#7284# Once the last # is hit, the PhoneUtil application is launched. Choose USB -> Modem and then USB -> PDA mode. Even if the mode is already PDA, switch to Modem and then back to PDA.
  3. Plug the USB cable.
Finally, could you tell me which browser you're using?  If you're using IE, could you verify the proxy settings?  To do this:

- Go to Windows Control Panel
- Open up Internet Options
- Click on "Connections"
- Click on "LAN Settings"
- Make sure that all of the boxes in the LAN Settings windows are unchecked.  (This includes Automatically detect settings, Use automatic configuration script, Use a proxy server for your LAN.)

See this picture:

- Then, OK your way out.

Does any of this help?

Hi Kevin,

Thanks for the quick response. I tried connecting to Klink and going
to http://10.0.0.1 but that didnt do anything but bring me to the
normal "unable to connect to the Internet".

I also tried unplugging the USB cable, going into the phone and typing
*#7284# and that brought me to a black screen with Service Mode and no
option to click on phone or USB or modem, I believe I was able to
input line text or something of that nature.

And I forgot to mention I also verified my LAN settings were jut how
you asked. I have tried using IE Explorer, Safari and Google Chrome
for this.

Hmm...  Thanks for stepping through all of my suggestions and checking over things.

What's interesting is that http://10.0.0.1 was never once visible.  That address points to your phone whenever Klink is connected and is only visible from the connected PC.  Actually, http://k.l ("K dot L") is a safer way to test your phone's network address, since the numeric address 10.0.0.1 may differ if you tweak Klink's network settings within the Android app.  My guess, however, is that you haven't tweaked the "Local address range" option within Klink's Network settings; let me know if you have done so.

Anyway, it sounds like your computer's virtual network adapter (the TAP-Win32 device) is not getting configured correctly.  Would you be able to dig up some info for me?

- Go ahead and make sure that your laptop's wifi radio is not searching for any hotspots.  (Or just turn off the wifi adapter.)
- Start Klink.
- Open up Windows Network Connections window under Control Panel.  (You can also run "ncpa.cpl" from the Windows Start menu to get there directly.)
- Click on "View" in the menu bar at the top, and choose "Details".
- Look for the connection associated with the device "TAP-Win32 Adapter V9".
- Right-click on that connection and choose "Status".
- Click on the "Support" tab
- Click on "Details"

Could you tell me what you see for the following items?
* IP Address
* Default gateway
* DNS server

Feel free to email me a camera picture directly (not to the mailing list, as that would flood a lot of people with an attachment!) if you'd rather not type it out.

What I'm looking for:
* IP address will probably be something like 10.0.0.x (where x is between 1 and 254)
* Gateway will probably be 10.0.0.1
* DNS server will depend on your carrier.
