Hi Kevin,

I've used Klink with no real issues for almost 5 years on three different Samsung Galaxy phones. Currently it's on a Samsung J7 Sky Pro and I use it with an Asus Win 10 notebook and on rare occasion, a custom Win 7 desktop. It has worked perfectly on this phone since installation last November.

No problems until today when I couldn't get a connection after plugging in and choosing "Allow access to device data" on the phone and "Start" in the Klink computer program. When I checked the app on the phone all I saw was the spinning "Checking connectivity" bar. Pushing "Start" in the computer program to initiate communication with the detected device gives the "Device negotiation error" and "Ensure that Klink has been started on the device."

Same exact situation with both computers. No changes or updates were done with either computer or the phone. No changes in the Klink phone app settings other than changes back to installation defaults when reinstalling the app.. Klink worked perfectly this morning with the notebook.

Disabling the Norton Security smart firewall and Auto-Protect on either computer does nothing. I see nothing in the Norton on the phone that did this. No events, no nothing.

The errors are the same with any USB cable. Using a brand new Samsung cable makes no difference. The phone USB port is clean and appears to be in good order. There is no problem connecting to or reading phone files from either computer. I reinstalled the Klink computer program on the notebook from the downloads folder on the phone just after I told the phone to download it. This updated the computer program from 1.11 to 1.12. I uninstalled Klink from the phone and reinstalled it from my Google Play account. Nothing changes.

I reiterate... Klink has been working perfectly for me with the Asus notebook and Vz 4g LTE internet. Then seemingly with no changes except being disconnected from the computer for the day, it won't work at all. Any ideas? The phone internet itself works just fine. Just won't feed a computer.

Thanks,
Don

Hi, Don.

Hm... so far two other people have reported issues today, so I don't think that this has anything to do with your computer or phone setup.  I've checked the connection test server logs (http://faveset-klink.appspot.com/verify, which should post a simple text message "HTTP method not supported" if you visit with your browser), and there are several successful requests today from verizon users.  However, I wonder if something changed (temporarily) in your area.

For testing purposes, could you try to hit the above appspot page and note the time when you make the request?  I'd like to see if the request shows up in the logs, as that would indicate whether there is a routing issue to the host from your end.

Thanks,

Kevin

Hello-- I'm having the same issue with Klink never connecting on my phone. After years of flawless use, this was noticeable in the midnight hour this morning. No changes to phone. Per your advice to others here, I clicked on the kind you provided at 10:13AM Central time... HELP!

Hi Kevin,

From the link in the Gmail thread message I received, I checked that site at 5:20 AM CDT with a browser in the phone and saw the message you specify in a tinytiny font.

I left the phone, Klink and the computer connected to work on it all night and it was still showing the spinning bar.

Funny thing is my main satellite internet is goofing up too. It was out repeatedly late last night and went dead as a hammer this morning after I refreshed two browser pages. I eventually had to do complete modem boot by disconnecting the power and coax for a few minutes.

Thanks,
Don

Update: I installed the demo version from my Google Play library and it connects without issue. No spinning bar while it checks connectivity forever. I can go to the  links listed on the Klink Demo page.

Seems to me something must have broken in the real version of Klink yesterday. It is a relief to know it's probably not my phone or my computers that are broken.

Thanks for confirming.  I think something is definitely off when opening a connection to the test server.  I will likely see if I can get a build out quickly without the check.

One other thing, if you go to phone Settings > About phone (might be under a System settingd section) > Status > IP address, do you see just one set of numbers separated by dots ".", one set of numbers separated by colons ":", or both?  (Feel free to email a screenshot to me directly and not the group, since I don't think attachments are allowed.)

Thanks for being patient!

Kevin

Hi Kevin,

I don't have the foggiest idea how to do a phone screenshot but the only IP address under Settings/Status is in the format of xxx.xx.xx.xx.

It seems funny that problem installs are on both Vz and Sprint while others on Vz or Sprint are having no difficulties. Could it be a geographical thing? I'm on the gulf coast between Mobile and Pensacola.

Thanks for taking the time to help us with this!

Don
