Greetings,

I repeatedly get the "License Failure" message when trying to start
Klink. I've tried all the steps recommended in the FAQ to no effect
over the past 18 hours in four different locations. I've had the
application installed on my Samsumg Epic Galaxy $G.

Now what?

Regards,

Dave

Hi, Dave.

Would you please confirm that you've tried clearing the data within the "Play Store" app (not just Klink!) and then subsequently opened the "Play Store" app to re-initialize your identity?

That has helped the other 10 or so people who've come across the same problem.  (This has something to do with Google's Play Store transition, as the error is a response from Google.)

Also, have you recently changed the Google account that your phone syncs to?

Following up with this...

Dave got things working by uninstalling the Play Store app on his phone and then having it update itself again from the Market.  This seems a bit extreme, but it did the trick.

Hi, Larry.

Sorry for the inconvenience.  I suspect that this is the Play Store bug that has been plaguing some people.  This is normally solved by clearing the data (not cache!) for the Play Store app and then re-running the Play Store app once to accept the usage agreement.

Anyway, Google says that if the Play Store or Android Market disappears from your phone, you should power down the phone and then power it back up.  Android should then fix things automatically.

Afterward, could you clear the Play Store app's data to see if that fixes the licensing bug?  Specifically:

- From your phone's home screen, press the Menu key.
- Choose Settings > Applications > Manage applications.
- Choose Play Store
- Tap on "Clear Data"
- Then, open up the Play Store app on your phone and accept the usage agreement.
- Finally, if your phone has multiple accounts, press the Menu key within the Play Store app and choose "Accounts".  Then, make sure that the Google Account that you used to purchase Klink is selected.

Please let me know how it goes.

Kevin

Missing the Android Market/Google Play store app from your Home screen

If you no longer see the Android Market or Google Play Store app shortcut on your Home screen, you'll need to re-add the icon. From your device's app launcher, find "Play Store" (it looks like a white shopping bag with a colorful sideways triangle) from your device's app launcher, and long press (press and hold) to add it to your Home screen. Note that the icon will be under "P" alphabetically, not under "G."

Missing the Play Store app from your app launcher

If the Google Play Store app doesn't appear in your app launcher, turn your device completely off (you'll need to power down - just turning off the screen is not sufficient). When you power the device back on, check the app launcher again.

Issues first launching Google Play

If the Google Play app disappears or force closes upon first open, please reboot your device (turn it completely off and back on), and try opening the app again.

I tried this same procedure but I got a message that the uninstall failed.  However, the Play Store app is no longer there. I tried to download and re-install the Play Store app and I get a message that Android Market is missing.  Any suggestion how I can get these apps back?

I too have the Samsung Epic 4g.

Kevin.  I wanted to let you know I got my Samsung Epic 4g working with Klink but I'm not sure what made the difference. I finally got Play Store reinstalled after having deleted it per a recommendation I saw in this forum. It also went thru an update. I plugged back into my laptop running Vista. It recognized the connection but when I pressed "Start" I would get the dreaded message. Then a message appeared on my phone recommending that I don't connect to the MASS STORAGE card. I disconnected it and connected in a CHARGE ONLY mode.  Walla, I connected to the Internet. I disconnected everything and then retried it and it works again. Maybe this might help some others. I think it was the mass storage connection that was messing me up.

Oh!  I had forgotten about the "Charge only" mode.  You're absolutely right about that.

Galaxy S devices (and perhaps newer Samsung models) turn off USB debugging mode whenever the USB storage mode is activated.  Klink and similar apps use "USB debugging" to communicate between computer and phone, so storage mode would interfere with things.  I think the same goes for many Motorola devices.

Thanks, Larry!  I'll try to remember this in the future.
