Hi,

Klink has a number of Thunderbolt users (over 2%), so we should be able to get something working.  Otherwise, I'll give you a refund.

There are two things that immediately come to mind:

1) Have you previously installed EasyTether on your Mac?  EasyTether installs a driver that takes exclusive control of your phone and prevents related programs (like Klink and the Android software development tools) from running.  Could you verify by following the steps that I've copied below?
  • Open up the Finder.
  • Click on your Mac's hard drive in the left pane.
  • You should see a short list of folders. Open the one titled "System".
  • Open "Library".
  • Open "Extensions".
  • Look for the file named "EasyTetherUSBEthernet.kext", and drag it to the trash. Your computer might ask for your authorization, so confirm the action.
  • Restart your computer to clear all traces of EasyTether's driver from memory.
  • NOTE: You may reverse these changes at any time by re-running EasyTether's installation process. Klink does not install a driver that will take exclusive access of your device.
2) Make sure that USB debugging is enabled.  This is probably already set, as the Klink phone app now checks for that setting when Start is pressed.

Also make sure that the USB connection type is set to "Charge Only".  You can verify this by pulling down the notification pane by swiping from top to bottom on your phone.  It should say something like "Select to change USB connection type" in small text.  My guess is that you've also done this.  Though, Mac users with other phones have had to experiment to find the optimal setting, so you might wish to do so as well.

Let me know if either of these help.  Otherwise, we'll try a different approach.

I'm running windows 7, and it also keeps saying device not detected. I
see you explained this for a mac, but I don't think it's comparable to
the solution for a pc. Can you help? Thanks!

Hi,

Could you tell me which phone you're using?  Did you install drivers?

With your phone connected to your computer with "USB debugging" enabled (pressing the "Start" button in the Klink app will guide you on enabling this if it's not set), could you run Windows "Device Manager" by going to the Windows Start Menu and then running "devmgmt.msc"?  You should see your phone listed near the top as some sort of "ADB" or "Android" device.  You'll need to install drivers if it shows up under "Other devices".

If it shows up under "Other devices", you should grab the driver file for your phone from here:

Note that you should probably use Klink's help viewer to download the driver if you only have the phone.  Also note that I'm going to improve this setup process tremendously and have this week prioritized that ahead of some other improvements due to Verizon's recent censorship of the app.

Anyway, once you grab the driver file and copy it to your computer, run it if it's in an installer format.  If it's a "zip" file, right-click and "Extract" it somewhere.

Then, go back to the Device Manager and right click on your phone's entry in the "Other devices" item.

Choose "Properties", and then click on the "Driver" tab near the top of the Window.  After doing this, click on the "Install" or "Update" driver button.

On XP:
- You should see a hardware update wizard.
- Tell it not to connect to Windows Update
- Choose "Install from a list or specific location"
- The first item "Search for the best driver in these locations" should be marked. Check the second box and click the "Browse" button.
- Find the directory where you extracted the files (probably off of the Windows desktop)
- Click OK and then Next to continue.
- Windows should then detect your phone.  You might have to repeat this once more.

On Vista/7:
- You should see a "Found New Hardware" window
- Choose the first item "Locate and install driver software (recommended)"
- Choose "Don't search online" when asked if you want Windows to look online
- Tell Windows that "I don't have the disc.  Show me other options."
- Choose "Browse my computer for driver software (advanced)"
- Press the "Browse" button.
- Find the directory where you extracted the files (probably off of the Windows desktop)
- Click "Next".
- Windows should then detect your phone.  As with XP, you might have to repeat this once more.

After doing this, your phone should move to the top of "Device Manager" and be identified as some sort of "ADB" or "Android" item.

You should then be able to run the Klink app successfully.

Let me know if this helps!

I wish it were helpful but my problem  is at the begining: I don't think the driver is installed properly or something.
Sorry I forgot to mention, my phone is a sprint optimus s.
I followed the directions in the "help" section ( or so I thought... ) what do u suggest I do? Start over  maybe?
Thanks!

Hi, Miri.

I'm in the process of rewriting the help page, so things might look different later this week.  However, were you able to copy the "Windows Drivers for LG Android Phones" to your computer?

The filename is:

LGUnitedMobileDriver_S4981CAN32AP22_ML_WHQL_Ver_3.2.exe

Once copied, you need only double-click to install it.

Then, make sure that your phone is no longer mounted as a removable drive by bringing up the notification pane (swipe from top to bottom) and tapping on the "USB connection type" entry.  It might have a different name, but it might say something about "USB" and "mounted" or "mass storage" when it is configured as a removable drive.  Make sure it is set to a "Charge only" type of mode.

After doing this, make sure that "USB debugging" is enabled by pressing the Start button with Klink's app: it will direct you to the USB debugging menu if it is not set.  Then, plug in your phone to have Windows configure the drivers that you just installed.

Could you tell me what happens after doing this?

The windows driver for my phone was installed, but then when I re-checked the debugging option, a bubble popped up on my computer that a driver wasn't properly installed. And now there's still no device detected....

Ok.  It sounds like you'll need a different driver for the Optimus S.

Could you try this one instead?  You'll probably want to run the uninstaller (via Add/Remove programs) on the previous LG drivers, first.

Please let me know if this works; I'll be sure to update the drivers download page once you confirm it.  I'm really sorry for the inconvenience!

Sorry bout the time in between conversation. I got everything working. I had to download the file and put it on my SD card and install. Works just fine now :-)

Glad to hear that the update worked!

I've also read on some forums that the airplane mode trick does work for at least two Verizon phones: the Droid X and Thunderbolt.  Perhaps it will work with other models as well.

To do this:
- Turn off WiFi
- Turn on Airplane Mode
- Turn on WiFi
- Then, go into the market.

Hi, J.

What happens when you click the link from the web page?  If "Unknown sources" is enabled under Home screen->Menu key->Settings->Applications, you should just be able to click on the .apk file link using your regular Android browser.

You might get a prompt asking if you want to load the file in Package installer, which you should choose.

Hi, J.

I think I know what's causing that issue, and it should be fixed in the next update (this weekend) or the one immediately after that one.
