Hi My friends have the Samsung SCHR720ZRAM. We downloaded the paid
version. After following the setup instruction and clicking on teh
"Start" button on the PC App we got following error.

"Device Connection Error : 14"

Please let us know how to fix it.

Hi, Dhammike.

Could you tell me the operating system that your computer is running?  I'll assume that you're running Windows Vista or 7, since that is the most common.

Do you also get a different warning along with that error?  (Perhaps something like "TapCreate() failed"?)

If so, could you uninstall the PC software and make sure to install it as an administrator.  During installation, be sure to allow installation of the Klink network adapter.  More explicitly:

- Uninstall Klink's PC software from your computer using the uninstaller.

- Right-click on Klink's PC installer, and choose Run as administrator.

- During install, you'll be asked whether to allow installation of a network adapter from Faveset LLC.  Please allow this.  (Note, Windows will highlight the deny button by default, so inadvertently hitting the enter key will deny installation.)

- Also during install, you'll be asked to allow installation of an unverified driver.  Allow that as well.

- After installation, restart your PC one time to make sure that all is clean.  (This shouldn't be necessary, but just to be on the safe side.)

Does the error still show up?  Please let me know how it goes.  We should be able to figure this out, or I'll give you a refund.

Hi, again.

Did you also get a TapCreate error before the connection error 14?

My suspicion is that the virtual network adapter was not installed correctly for some reason.  This has happened a few times in the past for some XP users.  Could you do the following?

- Uninstall Klink's PC software.

- Make sure that Klink's PC installer is copied somewhere to your computer, like your Windows desktop.

- Start your computer into Windows Safe Mode by restarting it and tapping the F8 key the moment that your computer starts powering up.  This will bring you to a selection screen, where you can choose to boot "Safe Mode".

- Let Windows boot into safe mode.

- Install Klink's PC software using the installer.

- When this is done, restart Windows normally.

Does this help?

If not, could you open up the Windows Device Manager by running "devmgmt.msc" from the Windows Start button?  This will pop up a device window.  From there, please expand the "Network adapters" item.  Do you see some sort of error status for Klink's Virtual Network Adapter?  If so, right-click on it and choose "Properties".  This will give you an error code that you can share with me so that I can investigate further.

Feel free to email me a camera image or screenshot of the device manager window, but please send that directly to me and not to the mailing list.

Hi, again.

One last thing came to mind after helping another person with the same error:

Please make sure that your phone's built-in tether mode is turned off.  This can usually be found under the phone Settings->"Wireless and networks" settings page.

You might also want to turn off the "Disable USB debugging mode" option under Settings->"Location and security" if your friend's Samsung model has it.  I believe that most Samsungs running Android 2.3 have this Samsung-specific setting.  When enabled, it interrupts USB debugging when the phone's screen turns off, which will interrupt your Klink session.

(To access the phone Settings, press the Menu button from your phone's home screen, and choose Settings.)
