Hi all,

I'm not great with code and I've been struggling to figure out how to make the instructions on the wiki work. I've downloaded visual studios, and tried to add it to my path. The issue is that there is no VC\bin  directory. instead I have a location that looks like this:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio\2017\Community\MSBuild\15.0\Bin

I figure this has something to do with this version of VS being newer. The problem is, if I try to add this to my path using the setx command, I get an error that reads:

ERROR: Invalid syntax. Default option is not allowed more than '2' time(s).

I've tried troubleshooting this, but nothing has worked. I assume there's something I just don't understand.

I also tried downloading cygwin and going that route, but some of the packages don't seem to exist in the directory anymore. Since the online version of FAVE-align no longer works, I would really appreciate any help I could get.

Thanks a lot,

Phil.

Hi Phil,

Does the setx command work if you enclose the path in double quotation marks:

setx PATH=%PATH%;"C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio\2017\Community\MSBuild\15.0\Bin"

For cygwin, what packages seem to be missing? Are they still missing if you select a different mirror?

Hi Scott,

Unfortunately, this doesn't seem to have worked. I now get a "WARNING: The data being saved is truncated to 1024 characters." followed by "SUCCESS: Specified value was saved." but it does not work. In doesn't end up saved in my path nor does it seem to allow me to continue with the steps.

The missing package is "
  • python-numpy: Python scientific computing module
and it does not show up if I change the mirror. I have also tried this on my other computer to see if it was a problem with the machine and I run into the same problems.

Thanks,

Phil.

Hi Phil,

It looks like that cygwin package has been renamed to python2-numpy. Could you try installing that package, and see if the rest of the directions for setting up FAVE with cygwin still work?

Also, the new versions of Praat don't include a separate praatcon anymore, but you can download the final version of praatcon here: http://www.fon.hum.uva.nl/praat/old/5422/

Can you also email me (separately, off the listserv) the contents of your PATH? It might need to be fixed. You can get it by typing echo %PATH% in the command prompt.

Scott

Hi Phil,

I am having the same problem with the new version of Visual Studio - did you find a way to get it to work?

Thanks,
Rowan
