Hi everyone,

I am having trouble in alignment. After I run this command ''python FAAValign.py -vn -i inputBM.txt BM.wav'', it returns me with these errors:

Processing uf004 -- chunk 514:  HE S JUST LAUGHING

Sound chunk uf004fyni_uf004_chunk_514.wav successfully extracted.

This is confusing, since it went well with other previous files. Though I tried different audios and transcriptions, it is still not working. Also I have reinstalled everything, and updated OS, the same thing happens.

Are there anything I could do to fix this?

Thanks a lot!

I'm also getting similar errors to this and on my system.  Similarly, FAVE was working fine, nothing's changed on my system (that I can think of) and now it's not working.

The failed attempts successfully spit out a useless TextGrid which crashes Praat when you try to open it.

I was wondering whether it's got anything to do with the .txt transcription file itself?  Because that's all that's changed between FAVE working successfully and failing - it's a new student transcriber whose files aren't working properly.  I have also updated ELAN, but am still exporting in UTF-8 encoding, so can't see how that would affect it.  All out of ideas though...

I've just tried it on a file which I'd successfully aligned a couple of months ago, and it failed on that.

Could you try re-running the alignment with the -v flag and see what it says?

Aha, so is it something to do with the Mac Developer Tools?

I re-downloaded FAVE toolkits and re-ran them, and the problem didn't show up again.

Hi, I just started getting this same error last night, after not changing anything (that I know of.)

Maybe you still check this and could tell me what you mean by "it had something to do with Mac Developer Tools?" Is there something I need to update?

I'll try just re-downloading FAVE-align like you mentioned, and hopefully it will work.

UPDATE: In my case "ERROR [+5013]  ReadString: String too long" was occurring because of a problem with the format of the dictionary.  There were a few entries that had somehow gotten quotation marks " at the end of the line.  Once I fixed the formatting of the dictionary, the error went away.  I hope this might help anyone in the future that encounters the same problem.

Allison, can you tell me how to access the dictionary to re-format it? I'm running FAVE-align on my laptop and getting exactly the same error but I don't know which file in the folder is dictionary.

Thanks,
Caitlin

I can't remember if I've changed the file/folder structure since installing FAVE, but for me at least the dictionary is in FAVE-align/model and it should be called dict (it might not have a file extension, but you should be able to open it in a plain text editor)
