(The Church allows this? I think its a disgrace and comes to the point
of blasphemy and sounds like Demonic influence.. I dunno..this scares
me)

In U.S., Hispanics bring Catholicism to its feet
Church offers livelier services for a growing constituency of
charismatics

I know St.Pio would be screaming in heaven if this happened at his
mass.

"Some may be uneasy with shift
To be sure, not everyone in the church -- from the leaders to the
flock -- is comfortable with that shift. Even at the 10 a.m. Mass at
St. Benedict's, many parishioners in the back remained solemn as
charismatics in the front pews expressed their faith with great
animation. Some charismatic practices remain controversial, including
a devotion known as the "baptism of the Holy Spirit." The ritual,
which varies greatly among charismatic groups, often starts with weeks
of reviewing the gospel and culminates in a prayer to "release" the
Holy Spirit from inside the soul. At that point, some participants
express extreme joy and might begin to speak in tongues.

No water is used -- avoiding the appearance of mimicking the sacrament
of baptism, which Catholics usually perform for infants to cleanse
original sin. The baptisms of the Holy Spirit are similar to the
baptisms of reborn Christian faiths, which makes some Catholics
uneasy."

While I was never so moved by the Holy Spirit I used to attend a
Charismatic Catholic Mass and prayer gathering on Friday nights as a
seminarian at CUA. They both spoke and sang in tongues.

I will admit that there is a danger from Pentecostal plants who would
try to impose their own theology upon such experiences; but as long as
good priests and Catholic lay leaders were in charge, this danger can
be avoided.

The Church has permitted the movement and it is not my place to second-
guess such decisions. The community in Steubenville seems to have
maintained their Catholic identity. Franciscan University even offers
an academic major in PRO-LIFE STUDIES. I do not think anyone else
does.

So, what more can I say?

Chim chiminey, Chim chiminey, Chim chim cher-ee!

Chim chiminey, Chim chiminey, Chim chim cher-oo!

Um diddle diddle diddle um diddle ay, Um diddle diddle diddle um
diddle ay, Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!

Yabba Dabba Doo!

P.S. Do you think that Mary Poppins and Fred Flintstone were
Charismatics?

no. I meant the speaking of tongues and calling the holy spirit?.. I'm
surprised they don't levitate but you will get to the point of being
baptists and their mass being all about music rather than worshipping
God and his sacrifice.. Do Baptists,Protests even offer the Eucharist?

I am not sure what you are trying to say? Most Charismatic Catholics
I know seem to have a very traditional view of the REAL PRESENCE in
the Eucharist and view the Mass as a SACRIFICE. At least those with
whom I was affiliated felt that way.

Baptists do not speak in tongues, at least not normally.

Speaking in tongues is regarded as a lesser gift, and despite the
protest of Pentecostals, it is not necessary for salvation.

The article and I read 2 articles on this said the parishioners just
started speaking in tongues... does that seem normal to you?

That is what a lot of Charismatic Catholics do...often
spontaneously...they speak in tongues. It is not how God moves me but
who knows how he might touch others. It might even seem scary to us,
but we must be careful. Do not call it demonic. If it is indeed how
the Holy Spirit moves them than our rebuke would represent the sin of
blaspheming against the Holy Spirit.

We would not want to do that.

I didn't mean the speaking in tongues was of demonic origin but I
meant this "new style" of mass. or influences that aren't traditional.
is charismatic mass the usual "atleast they come to mass" thing. as
whatever it takes.. some people in the article says they wouldn't of
have come unless they were "entertained" as that is what the other
denominations do with their dancing, singing.

The article does not see the trees for the forest.

Charismatic Masses need not include dancing or elements that conflict
with the rubrics.

I suspect there are Hispanic cultural features that have been
introduced.
