I'll be at the Ramona show for sure, and will definitely try to make the LA
show.
Here's my Fates story so far...
Back in 1994/95 I was doing a small website type thing for Dream Theater,
purely just from a fan perspective (an online song book of lyrics). I had
also wanted to do a full fledged website of some king, but there were
already tons of DT sites. I looked around and found almost nothing for
Fates, and since I'd been a huge fan of theirs since Perfect Symmetry was
released, I decided to create a Fates fan site around mid 1996. First
hosted on my ISP account as seen here in gloriously bad 90s style HTML -

I ran and updated that site for a while, eventually moving it to its own
domain, ivorygate.com and then a bit later to fateswarning.info (which
would run until the end of 2010).
I had seen Fates a few times, Parallels tour (my first show), the DT Awake
tour with Fates opening, etc. It wasn't until the A Pleasant Shade of Gray
tour (1996) that I would have my first real contact with the band. On that
tour I decided to road trip and catch as many shows as possible in the AZ -
CA area. At one of the first shows I asked the merch guy if it would be
cool to put a little flyer on the table that advertised the
fateswarning.info web site. He said sure.
I went back to the table at the end of the night to pickup any leftover
flyers. When I did, the merch guy said, "Hey, Jim wants to talk to you". I
thought perhaps he isn't happy about the flyers or the website. Gulp.
The merch guy took me backstage where I met Jim who said the website was
cool and he'd been following it for a while. I got to chat with him and Ray
for a bit. Ray thought I was crazy to be following them to multiple shows.
After that tour I heard from Jim via email periodically, just little things
here and there. Sometimes dispelling some rumor or false news report,
occasionally discussing music we were currently listening to, etc.
It wasn't until January 2011 that Jim asked me to take over the official
site. I merged old stuff into a new site at fateswarning.com and slowly
shut down the other site.
I've been running it since then and adding a couple of others to the roster
(OSI, Jim's personal site). Info here:
