It’s been a couple of years since the last newsletter. That’s mental. If you read the last one then did 2 years for aggravated assault you’d be out by now and possibly offending again. Seems like last week.
I was just checking the archives of my creations to make sure there is enough fat-pie news and by crikey there is more than enough. Do forgive me if I mention anything that I mentioned last time. I’m sure I will. It’s a lot of work to find the old newsletter. At least 3 clicks: mice clickspies ;)
For all you preamble junkies, I’m trying to wean you off it by giving you slightly less each time. You’ll thank me.
Locust Toybox new album
Why is this the leading story you may ask? Because I control the news!…..(letter) ….and I only just put the album out. In fact you could say that I only wrote this newsletter to promote my new album –how cynical of you to think that. You must think I’m capital obsessed. Nah. I basically make music for free but I really want people to listen to it. I mean it pays for the software I bought to make it and that’s enough really. Making stuff is the fun part, finding a way to keep that going is the business side of things. Maybe one day I’ll get popular enough to get sued for use of uncleared samples and will make just enough money to pay my legal fees –one can only dream.
The album is called “Pleased To Be Eaten” and is of the more upbeat variety with loads of beats and samples and grooves and stuff. Just give it a listen.
And if you buy it on Bandcamp there are 2 bonus tracks that AREN’T on Spotify.

Salad fingers 13
Your green mate is back. What can I say? it’s episode 13. You know what to expect by now….or DO you? I don’t need to convince people to watch this as much as my other stuff so I shall keep it brief. In fact here’s a dirty scoop: I’m currently working on a small Salad Fingers based animation for the 20th Anniversary that is coming up. You don’t get bulletins like THAT on Twitter.
Plastic Hand
Here is a small whimsical story of a man and his hand. I miss making smaller less-thought-about things. Sometimes it’s good to under-think one. That’s exactly what this is. Pretty gentle one for gentle ears. Folks who enjoyed Pulch, Panathinaikos Bear or Drillbithead might enjoy this one. I’d love to get into the habit of doing lighter ones too. It’s not all darkness.
Not Stanley 0
Recorded in 2010. There was leftover audio from the only successful Not Stanley recording session. All 4 original episodes were recorded on the same day. In a blast of confusion and hyperactivity. I don’t remember what I was trying to achieve that day. I started doing a voice and thought it sounded funny so I pressed record. The distortion from the microphone made it sound old-timey, like a tape recording. I added processing to exaggerate this even more. I was loosely trying to impersonate John Wayne Gacy which is why he’s talking about murders and why he keeps changing his story, but I’m not very good at accurate impressions so it sounds nothing like him.
After a few minutes I found a focus for some form of narrative and came up with the 4 episodes that were originally released before it petered out. I had no plan at the time to animate these.
Going back to the original audio I wanted to make something out of the first couple of minutes but it didn’t go anywhere, so I edited it together with some other unused bits and had enough for a new episode. All still from that original blast of nonsense.
I record myself all the time for characters but it’s rare that I will capture a pure flow-state. I don’t know where the words came from and I seem to have no further access to Stanley and his mind. I have tried on numerous occasions to channel him but so far he hasn’t offered anything new. When it works it is unmistakable. The words are there before they are even thought about. It feels good.
The News Hasn’t Happened Yet #4
How do you make fun of the already ridiculous? It’s too easy so it’s too difficult. That’s how it works. Because with comedy you are battling with other people making the same jokes. After you see 2 people making the same observation it becomes stale. It’s a good thing I don’t write jokes. I don’t think too deeply about this stuff. I put my face on news footage and make them say silly things. Then I try to connect the parts. The result is a collage of absurdity.

I used to make games. I still do but I used to too. This is all about the video games I used to make when I was a teenage boy. I sort of gave up when animation became my career, but I always had a thirst to make games and have been chipping away at a few over the years. This video explores all that and also shows what games I have been working on recently. One of them might actually get released.

There was an app once. Such a magical app. I could upload a video and in real time record my own dialogue replacing the original and mysterious technology would lip-sync it all together perfectly. All those face replacements I made for The News Hasn’t Happened Yet were painstakingly manually tracked and replaced - this app did it automatically, albeit with quality and length limitations.
I made a selection of little dubs in the unfortunate VERTICAL VIDEO format, which isn’t optimal viewed on a PC - it really is horrible but if you’re on the toilet and have been ignoring your dairy intolerance you might be there for a while and need a few smiles to blast one through the piles. I’m The Manager - The Manager’s Files (2006)
An album I made in 2006. Punk, post rock, post hardcore, noise rock whatever. I put it on MySpace back in the day and now I’ve finally gotten around to getting it on Spotify. Hooray. I paid a fee for it to be free for everyone….. Until it gets 1000 plays on each track, it will make no money. So it will make no money. But it’s out there. At least one person a year asks about this and as a man of the people person I have finally made it available.
Small note:
Keep your ears peeled when watching the new series of Smiling Friends. My voice is in there somewhere. Not a major role or anything, just a guy.
Well that’s this one wrapped. The joy I get from keeping a dead newsletter running is immeasurable. That doesn’t mean it’s high or anything. I just can’t measure it. Most things can’t be measured. Just remember that.
For your homework try to think of some things that CAN be measured. Be creative and HAVE FUN!.
