Les,

I think it was very brave to front it out publicly. Well done you.

Doesn’t explain the golf tho…

Don’t tell me you’ve forgotten the eye-patch golfing trip already. Surely that’s a reasonable excuse?

Hi Les, it’s very brave of you to share your story.  I had no idea that strokes could leave people with that sort of emotional problem.  It must have been really difficult knowing that you were treating Jen badly, but not being able to do anything about it.  It sounds like the support you got has helped you to adapt your behaviour and to help your family to understand what you were going through, so thank goodness that support was there for you.

Hope to see you again sometime soon, although I guess it will be next year before the next Fatboys outing (I can’t make the Agm in December as I’m away in Derbyshire).

All the best, Clive

"Les had a stroke while on the golf course ..."
I see what you did there.

Well done Les. Not many people can build such elaborate stories to excuse getting nasty tempered in old age.

Kudos for publicising your story.

From your Queenstown Correspondent.

Well Les, that makes a change from the usual old men conversations on backs, knees, shoulders and prostates. As Steve Coogan would put it in his latest TV series “ How are you”, it sounds like you are better or at least have it under control, hopefully you have made it up with Jen and can be allowed out again soon.

All the Best

Gents

Thank you all for your positive and not-too-sarcastic comments, all very much appreciated. 👍

This all started because people inevitably asked me "how are you now?", and frankly I got fed up replying "I'm fine thanks", when I knew that I wasn't - and so I decided to be more honest and go public.

Working with the Stroke Association I have presented/discussed my experiences to my fellow "Stroke Survivors" and their carers/spouses. This led to being invited to present to a larger audience at the South of England Stroke Association away-day for employees of the Association - which led to me and Jen being interviewed, which led to the article I sent to you all. It's also on the Stroke Association website I believe - with others.

The article is part of the focus of National Stroke Day - which is today.

As a direct result of these activities we have already seen other "Stroke Survivors" being more vocal about their own circumstances - including one guy who had steadfastly refused any help for several years, and who is now actively working on a personal plan with the SA and his family. Other SS have now stepped forward to discuss their own circumstances to the group.

It's good to see that I can still make myself the centre of attention when I want to.

Seriously, thank you all.
See you soon I hope.

Today is National Stroke Day
