Wentthru all the setup of epson printer,' downloaded iprint from epson, but I pad can't see any AirPrint printers. Printer itself is working from pc, but I have not left pc connected to printer as I won't be using it, hopefully

The printer may need a firmware update to enable Airprint. Please run Download Navigator that should be installed on your computer in the Applications or Epson folder. This will search for any new firmware that is available. Once this is run and the Firmware updated, the printer will need to be restarted. If, after restarting the printer your iPad still does not see the printer, we would recommend contacting Epson tech support at 562-276-4382 as there are other variables involved.

I did download latest software and firmware, then I was able to print an email, a photo, and a web page, great. But then I turned the printer off. When I turned it back on again I am back not being able to print!!! Can't find printer message again. Ahhhhhh

As in previous email we would recommend contacting Epson tech support to help determine why the printer is dropping off the network. If this is under the year warranty and there is an issue, you would want to resolve this within the warranty period.

My Epson NX625 cannot be found by the firmware update and further does not show up in AirPrint. I have confirmed it is connected to the network via WiFi, and all drivers are updated. Any thoughts? Thank you!

Unfortuately the NX-625 is not support with the Apple AirPrint app. To use this model with a mobile device, iPrint must be used. You may download Epson iPrint at the www.epson.com/connect website. There is also FAQ's and other information about the iPrint app.

When I run Epson Scan, which has until today always run without a problem, I do not get a 'preview' window when I click the "preview" button. I am working in "professional" mode and all that appears is a small (like as small as it is possible to be) secondary window saying "EPSON Scan" in the top, and with an "X" button that you can't click.

When it pops up, it's in the bottom LH corner of the screen, hidden behind the start menu button. When you try to click on it, all that happens is that the main Epson Scan window flashes.

I have tried restarting both computer and scanner. I have tried uninstalling, then re-installing EpsonScan.

Does anybody know WTF is going on?

It appears to be able to scan without problem; obviously completely unadjusted scans, but they seem to exist.

The scanner also whirs around like normal when I click the "preview" button, but it just displays this weird little box instead of the proper one.

Edit: I am running windows 7 64 bit, and have used this set up continuously for over a year without fault, until it randomly stopped working today.

This is a screenshot: the little box in the LH corner does not interact normally; you cannot move it and the X does not close it. It is only where it is because I fiddled with the location of the start menu and it jumped out of the way.

Sounds like a weirdly minimized window. Can you hover the mouse over the edges until you see a double arrow and drag it to change the window's size?

If this doesn't work, play around with some keyboard shortcuts to change window size or location, if you want to try to move it away from under the Start button.

So, try this:

- First make sure the window is selected.

- Use keyboard shortcut Alt-Space to open the window's position and size controls. You may not be able to see the controls menu, as it might open off-screen.

- Then use "m" and start moving the window with the keyboard arrow keys. Press Enter to lock the window's new position.

- Then do Alt-Space again and this time press "s" to resize the window, again with the arrow keys, finalize with "Enter" to save the new size. Hopefully your window will "open up" that way again and you can reach its controls.

You might want to practice this on a normal window first to understand how this works.

Hope these shortcuts still work in Windows 7.

I have just tried that: it offered me two options on the alt+space menu which were "move" (greyed out) and "close" which I clicked, and it shut the whole application.

Thanks for your help though, I think that it is an internal software glitch though, so I just wondered if it had happened to anyone else? (and how they got out of it!)

Its really weird that you reinstalled and the preview window is still missing. are you using, or have you recently used, two or more displays? Ive had windows lost off my main desktop after a second monitor was turned off. Have you installed or updated any software lately? when you re installed the scanner, did you use the disk that came with it or a downloaded installer from the epson website?

Yes, I did use two displays - my laptop computer screen and a secondary monitor that actually renders the scans as they truly are.

I used the file from the Epson website.

How did you solve your two-display problem?

Ah, I tried that, but it doesn't seem to be on display 2; maybe it's locked into an alternative display 2 that I can't access or something. I've never had problems with split display before, if I unplug the monitor, everything just jumps back to display 1...

Thank you for your advice though.

So, finally I got round to phoning Epson Tech Support.

First they gave me this info:

In response to your query, we recommend viewing the following EPSON Knowledge Base article:

You can also use our Knowledge Base to search for other articles relating to Epson products and services. After accessing the Knowledge Base via the article link above simply click on the ''Search'' tab to search for more articles.

Alternatively, go to www.Epson.co.uk/Support, select your product and then click on Online Support & Manuals.

Browse through the articles or enter your search criteria and then click on the search button. Examples include your product model (e.g. SX400) and any keywords relating to your enquiry, such as ''ink cartridge'', ''driver settings'', ''Epson Scan'' or any error message.

Anywho, I followed the instructions at the end of that link, which completely disinstalled everything - no remainders or little files left.

I then downloaded the driver set for Win7 from Epson, reinstalled and...

Same problem.

I phoned back, and they suggested going into the "Configuration" button (middle, bottom main window on professional mode, as can be seen in the screenshot above) and finding the "Reset All" button. Clicked this, everything went back to native settings and it all worked fine. They didn't know exactly what had caused it, but it's clearly just a glitch. They said that there were no known issues with using dual screens, and that they use them at the Epson offices, and hadn't had an issue.

Anyway, if it happens to you, then you know what to do.

This P-o-S program has done this again, except this time with the main window rather than the preview window, so now I can't even click the "reset all" button.

Does anyone know any free software that will work with a 4990 and doesn't simply open the crappy Epson software to do so (e.g. like when you try to scan from Irfanview, it just opens EpsonScan)?

PLEASE somebody tell me in miniscule idiot-proof steps how to make this damn thing work. I'm at my wits' end with it. When I search for "xsane plugin", which seems to be what I need, I can only find lists of dozens of files with 25 character random-letter-string names.

To be perfectly honest, I'd rather just use EpsonScan, but the fucker is refusing to work for no discernable reason.

This might work if there are left over files and registry entries from the many uninstalls and installs. Download Revo Uninstaller, free version. Use it. It will show undeleted files associated with the program. Delete them all. It's safe. It creates a restore point. Try installing again. Don't know if it will do any good but it's worth a try.

Yeah, last time this happened, that's exactly what the Epson guy told me to do, and I spent ages going through all the files deleting them manually, then when I reinstalled, it did exactly the same thing.

And yes, I tried it again this time (albeit just a control panel uninstall rather than a full one) but no avail.

Well, for future reference, just use a third party uninstaller and you can easily delete all the leftover files. I hate software issues. I'd rather work on hardware. Sometimes, the only thing you can do is try everything and anything no matter how bizarre and something will work. I have to go back to printer software hell myself. We had a power outage and I lost all my settings for black and white which I never wrote down anywhere so I'm trying to fix that. Three hours and counting. That's why I hate software hell. Good luck. Hope someone comes up with some fix.
