Dear all

We are just over a week away from the second Fast for the Planet main event on Sunday 22 March - thank you to all those already registered. If you are intending to come on the 22nd and have not yet registered please register asap by following the process outlined on the website: http://www.fastfortheplanet.net/Contact/register.htm. Also below are some options for fasting that you may want to consider.

Fast Options

For Fast for the Planet, the suggestion is a fast from food and fluid. However, you may choose to adapt and fast from whatever you feel is appropriate* (especially, if for instance there are health issues, in which case we advise you consult an appropriate, qualified health practitioner in advance).

Once you've affirmed an intention, we suggest you aim to stay with it for the time-frame intended - we are suggesting to begin fasting before dawn, and to end at sunset: timings are touched on here

In addition, based on the wider values of the concept, we suggest to include one or more of the following:

1) When affirming your intention to participate in Fast For the Planet:

  • To (begin to) pay off any interest-bearing debt;
  • To let go of using a credit card;
  • If lending money, to do so on a profit/risk-sharing basis;
  • Begin to promote and participate in alternatives to the interest-based, fictitious economic system.

2) For the Fast For the Planet weekend, move towards buying only items that serve needs, rather than wants and desires.

3) To shift one action during/just prior to that weekend that lends to a just, sustainable and peaceful world. E.g. Walk or cycle a journey previously taken by car; Mend damaged clothing, or teach someone how to; Give something away to someone who needs it more than you.

A request

Two people who would like to attend the event on 22 March are looking for a lift home afterwards to N18, the Edmonton / Tottenham area. If anyone is planning to drive back that way after the event and could offer a lift please contact He...@stethelburgas.org

In peace,

Dear all

As we prepare for Fast for the Planet this Sunday here are some things to consider:

Bringing food

You are invited to bring some food for a shared meal after the breaking of the fast and to consider the following when deciding what to bring:

  • prefer food from local community shops/projects, or homegrown;
  • where possible, avoid supermarkets and power hungry chain-stores.
  • In keeping with the spirit of the event, we invite the qualities of simplicity and sharing as we end the fast with a main meal.
