Dear all

Some thoughts in preparation for Sunday’s Fast for the Planet event…

The evening before

  • Intention: We suggest spending at least a few minutes alone. Sit comfortably and clarify your intention to fast. This is an important part of the process and helps to bring in the qualities of mindfulness and presence. You may ask yourself: Why am I taking part? What meaning does the process hold for me? Then allow yourself a few moments silence, staying open.
  • Food: You may also like to prepare some food for the following day. (Or you could do this on the day itself).

On the day

  • Some traditions recommend starting fasting the day before e.g. from sunset, or 24 hours before the ending of the fast. We suggest starting the fast by 3.45am on the day (if you have not already done so), so that from this time we will all have begun. This is shortly before dawn in London.
  • Some traditions recommend having a small snack just prior to starting fast. This may mean setting an alarm and getting out of bed!
  • Please be aware that fasting can make us feel more emotionally fragile than usual. This is part of the process, and by being aware of it as such, we can allow ourselves space to process more subtle feelings we may not have previously noticed.

Arrival

Registration will be at 4pm but you are welcome to arrive from 3.45pm when there will be contemplative space available in the Tent.

Workshops

There will be a choice of 3 workshops to participate in which means making a decision about which one you’d like to do. We’ll be asking you to sign up for a workshop when you register on the door so please be thinking about which workshop in advance. Details are on the website (http://www.fastfortheplanet.net/Participate/participate.htm). There will be a limited number of spaces available for each workshop and these will be allocated on a first come first signed up basis.

Looking forward to seeing you on Sunday.

Best wishes.
