Can't open FIX 5.0 FAST 1.1 recording

I've been desperately trying to open a binary dump file in the FIX 5.0 FAST 1.1 format.
Here's what I did:
I installed Wireshark 1.4.12 32-bit (the old stable release) under Windows 7 64-bit and copied the fast-wireshark 1.01 plugin DLL into the Wireshark plugin folger into the Wireshark install dir (program files\wireshark\plugins\1.4.12\).
The program starts silently, no error message.
The FAST plugin seems to have been recognized and FAST shows up under Analyze/Enabled Protocols.
I click on Files/Open to open my dump file (*.dmp ending), only to receive a short error pop-up stating that "The file ... isn't a capture file in a format Wireshark understands."
What's going wrong?
Any helpful comment is appreciated.
