Ladies and Gentlemen, Colleagues of the Bicycle:

I recall several years ago a lot of complaints and observations here about problem drivers and dangerous traffic situations on the road.

Here is the case of one of them from N.Y. City below.

I have the attention of some of our State legislators on the matter, and plan to advocate for a vigorous minimum three (3) foot rule for any moving motor vehicle. I have had some extensive conversations with the legislator and/or their legislative staff.
I am also a member of the Highlander Tour (HCT) SAG team for several years now.

I would greatly appreciate YOUR story of a problem experiences or observed close at hand,
being endangered or struck, to use in this effort.
First person experience is more powerful than my trying to relate someone else's.

This weekend , the next few days, would be a great time to get it done and send to me.

Please include at a minimum the approx. location (road and town/city),
nature of offense/misconduct,
result or damage/injury, and
any law enforcement response/lack of interest,  and court action, if any.

TIA - Thanks.

Second Department

2nd_Appellate

PERSONAL INJURY, VEHICLE AND TRAFFIC LAW.

The Jury Should Have Been Instructed on the Vehicle and Traffic Law Provision That Requires Signaling for 100 Feet Before Making a Turn, Even Though the Truck That Made the Turn Was Stopped at a Traffic Light; Defense Verdict in This Truck-Bicycle Accident Case Reversed

The Second Department, in a full-fledged opinion by Justice Barros, overruling a City Court decision, reversing the jury verdict in this truck-bicycle traffic accident case, determined the jury should have been instructed on the Vehicle and Traffic Law provision requiring that a turn signal be activated for 100 feet before turning.

The truck was at a stoplight, and plaintiff testified the truck's turn signal was not on when she pulled up to the stoplight next to the truck. When she started riding straight through the intersection, the truck allegedly made a right turn and ran over her.
