Hello Los Angeles Sacred Harp Singing Community!

It’s hard to believe that the 36th Annual Sacred Harp Singing Convention is less than two weeks away! Most of the pertinent information can be found on the flyer that I have attached below, or in the Facebook event page. Here are a few additional details and reminders, please feel free to share with anyone you think might be coming and is not on this email list!

Housing: If you are in need of housing, please contact housing committee chair Mary Rose O’Leary at musho...@gmail.com, or call or text her at 323 695-3020.

Parking: Street parking is available and there is a white loading curb directly in front of the building for easy pick-up and drop-off if necessary. The street parking is limited, but we are working on gaining access to the Holy Family church parking lot across the street, as well as the parking facilities at South Pasadena High School which is also just across the street from the venue. I will provide more parking updates as we get closer to the event, however please consider carpooling or taking public transportation! Michael Hagerty, our anti-automobile public transportation action committee chair, has provided the following DETAILED instructions for easy to access public transportation!

Public Transportation: For most, the best public transit option will be to take the Metro light rail - A line (blue) to South Pasadena Station. The Women's Club of South Pasadena is about a 15 minute walk from South Pasadena Station. (Walk east 3 blocks on Mission Blvd. to Fremont, then walk south 6 blocks to the venue on Rollin St). The following neighborhoods are served by the A line:

From Pomona, San Dimas, Glendora, Azuza, Irwindale, Duarte, Monrovia, Arcadia, Pasadena - Metro A line towards Long Beach - Exit South Pasadena Station

From Highland Park, Northeast Los Angeles, Chinatown, Downtown Los Angeles, Florence, Watts, Willowbrook, Compton, Long Beach - Metro A line towards Pomona North - Exit South Pasadena Station.

For those not staying near an A line station, if you are able to get to downtown Los Angeles, you can connect to the A line via a number of other metro lines:

The B line (red) serves North Hollywood, Hollywood, East Hollywood, Koreatown, Westlake and Downtown Los Angeles - connect to the A line heading towards Pomona North at 7th Street Metro Center Station, or at Union Station

The D line (purple) serves Koreatown, Westlake and Downtown Los Angeles - connect to the A line heading towards Pomona North at 7th Street Metro Center Station, or at Union Station

The E line (yellow) serves Santa Monica, West Los Angeles, Culver City, Mid-City, Jefferson Park, Boyle Heights, and East Los Angeles - connect to the A line heading towards Pomona North at Little Tokyo Station

For those staying closer to the venue, it may be easier to arrive by bus:

From Highland Park - Metro Bus line 258 heading east towards Paramount - exit Fair Oaks/Monterey.

From Paramount, Cudahy, Commerce, East Los Angeles - Metro Bus line 258 heading north towards Figueroa/York - exit Fair Oaks/Monterey

From Downtown Pasadena - Metro Bus line 260 heading south towards Willowbrook/Rosa Parks Station - exit Fair Oaks/Monterey. Metro Bus line 261 heading towards Artesia Station - exit Fair Oaks/Monterey.

From Willowbrook, Lynwood, Cudahy, Maywood, Commerce, Monterey Park, Alhambra - Metro Bus lines 260 & 261 heading north towards Pasadena - exit Fair Oaks/Monterey

From Arcadia, East Pasadena, San Marino - Metro Bus line 179 heading west towards Huntington/Monterey - exit Huntington/Fremont

For more personalized public transit routing, the public transit filter on google maps works pretty well in Los Angeles, and the "Transit" app provides real-time train/bus arrival time info for free.

For any Los Angeles public transit/biking-related questions, feel free to reach out to Michael Hagerty - Michael.co...@gmail.com

Dinner on the Grounds: As always, local singers are strongly encouraged to bring a dish (or two!) each day. Luckily the Woman’s Club has an incredible kitchen, so burners, outlets, and refrigeration shouldn’t be a problem.

Social: The social will take place on Saturday evening at 7:00pm in beautiful Altadena, California, approximately 5-6 miles away from the venue. The exact location will be announced at the singing. If you need a place to land between the singing and the social, we will likely meet at Wild Parrot Brewing Company in Pasadena, which is equidistant between the Woman’s Club and the social.

Please spread the word and invite family and friends! If you need any more information or have any questions please feel free to reach out to me directly at DavidEls...@gmail.com

Looking forward to seeing and hearing all of you soon!
