Dear Singers,
Our dear sweet Jeff Begley died this morning. Jeff was an absolute ambassador for Sacred Harp, especially in LA, where he made it to just about every singing on all sides of town.
We were truly blessed last month when he and his wife Arieta and his sister Di schlepped out to the east side singing. It can’t have been easy.
He looked rather fetching in his beret, his body clearly struggling, his spirit strong as ever. He came to say goodbye, that he loved us and loved Sacred Harp. He thanked us for all these years of singing together.
We’ll miss his generous heart and shy warmth. A real gem.
We’ll sing for Jeff in Eagle Rock next Sunday and hope to get together a memorial singing for him some time soon.
Until then, grab a book and a friend, if you’re able, and sing 348t Ainslie or any other Sacred Harp song for him, how bout.
