I'm having a terrible time making the words of the second half of this song

Away over in the promis'd land,
Away over in the promis'd land,
I hope one day we'll all get there,
Way over in the promis'd land

sync with the notation. Can anybody diagram it for me or something?

Way ov-er in-the prom-is’d land   — land is on the dotted quarter note.
A-way ov-er in-the prom-is’d land   — again land is on a dotted quarter.
I hope one day
We’ll all get there
Way o-ver in the prom-is’d land

Notice that the printed lyrics alternate between “Away” and “Way” in the first part of the bottom brace, not like you have it. And that “in the” shares a quarter note, i.e. the music ought to have 8th notes rather than a single quarter note.

In the bottom system, treat each of the quarter notes at the end of the first and third measures as two eighth notes, for “in the”, and it should scan OK.

Thanks, Karen and Chris. You pretty much cleared it up for me; substituting eighth notes really helps!
