I was reminded of the ongoing corrections to the 1991 edition of The Sacred Harp today when the person next to me sang a "sol" while I sang "la" in the third-to-last measure of the first half of 85 (The Morning Trumpet). We each sang correctly according to the books that we were using.

I'm aware of a few corrections or changes that identify the sequence, at least, of the three copies of the 1991 edition that I'm most likely to take to a singing, including the incomplete measure in 448t that marks the first printing, and the well-deserved acknowledgment to Don Bowen that appears, I think, in the third printing ("For continuously searching and finding numerous typographical errors in the 1991 edition").

And was it the fourth printing that used a true white paper rather than the usual color (ecru, perhaps)?

Which leads to my question: Has anyone compiled a list of the changes between printings, with the dates of each printing?

It has been 7+ years since I sent the following email to the list, where it met with crickets. As the 1991 edition moves towards legacy status, I'm wondering again whether anyone has compiled a list of the changes between printings of the 1991 book, with the dates of each printing.

I was reminded of this when someone led 165 at a singing today. In the copy that I was using (the second printing, I think), the initial repeat is at the very beginning, to the left of the initial rest. Folks with later printings had the repeat properly to the right of that rest.

To the examples cited below, I'll add: Which printing changed the second verse of 371, making it difficult to lead without a tedious explanation?

Feel free to email me directly if you don't want to engage this particular obsession in public . . . .

This does not answer your question but I'm still using an early printing and was not aware of the 371 change. I led it at Exeter recently, did not make an announcement, and it went just fine with the old version. I had to go to the Bremen site to view the change you mentioned. No one said anything afterward either so I'm thinking it has to be recent.
