Hiya!

I've been blogging and writing at the singlour.org website and, for however niche and obscure it already is, I'd been working towards some deep bibliographical study of shape-note tunebooks and I think it might be "too much" for the website. I want the singloud.org website to have some niche material, but I wanted it to be approachable to the new singer, I think the bibliographical study is just too dull.

So I've set up a substack for this work exclusively. It's free and will always be free. It will be focused primarily on four-shape tunebooks but will cover seven-shape tunebooks as well. I will probably touch upon other printed materials and ephemera as well, but the focus is on shape-note thunebooks and tunebooklets.

The first postings will be about migrating materials already posted at singloud.org, but it will give me the opportunity to review them and edit them for the new medium. But I will also be launching a project that will request singers photograph copies of tunebooks they have, so I can hopefully learn more of the publishing history to share with you (don't send any yet, I'll have instructions!).

I am an enthusiast, and still new to all of this, so your commentary and critique is encouraged and welcome.

I won't be posting here for each post I make there, so please do subscribe by email if you're interested in following my work there.
