I think the following message forward from the Society for American Music mailing list may be of interest to some people on the Discussions list. Two of the guest editors should be
well-known to members of this list.

Common-place (
www.common-place.org<
http://www.common-place.org>)--the
award-winning online journal of Early American history and culture
sponsored by the American Antiquarian Society and the University of
Oklahoma--is seeking article abstracts for a special issue on American
music from the colonial period through 1876. This special issue is
scheduled for publication in January 2013. The journal's aim is to
provide non-specialist readers with the very best contemporary
scholarship on topics related to early America. We look for pieces that
are important and interesting and written in ways calculated to engage
readers within and well beyond the academy. Our digital format offers
the additional capability of incorporating both recordings and images
into Common-place articles. At the same time, Common-place is a
peer-reviewed journal that has established a secure place in American
cultural scholarship. Should your essays appear, you will be able to
record them as "peer-reviewed and permanently archived" on your vitae.
We
are particularly interested in submissions that focus on Native
American and African American communities and their musical traditions
in early America. We seek abstracts from scholars from a wide range of
disciplines.
The three guest editors of the special music issue
will be Stephen Marini (Wellesley College), Peter Leavenworth
(Independent Scholar), and Nikos Pappas (University of Alabama).
If
you are interested in submitting for this special music issue of
Common-place, please submit a short (250-500 word) abstract of your
proposed article to Steve Marini (
sma...@wellesley.edu<mailto:
sma...@wellesley.edu>) and Cathy Kelly, editor of Common-place (
c-pe...@ou.edu<mailto:
