Hey, folks!  I finally decided to launch a project that I've had simmering on the back burner for a few years.  (It took me a while to simplify things enough.)  Here goes!

Shining Hour is an online shape-note zine that’s open to all. We welcome creative work inspired by shape-note singing: digital art, illustration, photography, film, poetry, fiction, original music, and all other media are welcome. We encourage all singers to submit, regardless of perceived skill level, and we especially encourage participation by people from historically underrepresented groups in shape-note singing.

I’m sure things will evolve, but here’s what you need to know for now. Please join us!

PHILOSOPHY

Submissions to Shining Hour are uncensored and unjuried, but we honor the dignity and worth of all human beings and won’t permit hate speech (see https://www.un.org/en/hate-speech) of any kind.

HOW TO SHARE YOUR WORK

1) Go to https://www.facebook.com/groups/7799924486690040, join the group, and then submit your work at any time by posting. We’re only using Facebook out of absolute necessity, so we strongly encourage you to email us your work as well (see below).

2) Send your work to shining...@gmail.com. Everything we receive at this address will be shared in a PDF that we’ll send out at the start of each new year. (This address will be checked infrequently, so please be patient if you’re expecting a response.)

HOW TO READ SHINING HOUR

1) Visit our Facebook group above.

2) Join our mailing list to receive the annual PDF by going to http://eepurl.com/iHHi7c

HOW TO CONTRIBUTE IN OTHER WAYS

If the above sounds minimalist, it’s because I’m only one person and life is pretty full. I’d love collaborators, particularly people with graphic design skills! Please write to me at shining...@gmail.com and let me know how you’d like to help.
