In order to make Anne Steele's poetry easier to access, I'm working on something like an online edition.

But here is fairly well OCR'd version of the 1868 printing of John Sheppard's collection of her poetry, first published after her death. I don't know enough about the publication history of her three volumes published during her lifetime, and Sheppard's collection to guarantee these reflect the versions published in her lifetime.

But it's a start:

Enjoy!

Wade Kotter led me to some other collections:

The 3 volumes of her works (but this is published after her death):

Internet Archive has two copies of Sheppard’s collection:

Wade pointed to the editions at Hathi Trust:

Here are scans of the three volumes of her works that were published in 1780 (two years after her death) by Caleb Evans. Two were new editions of her 1860 collection and the third was a collection of miscellaneous pieces:

https://hdl.handle.net/2027/ia.ark:/13960/t59c88s5t Vol. 1
https://hdl.handle.net/2027/ia.ark:/13960/t05x3nt5t Vol. 2
https://hdl.handle.net/2027/ia.ark:/13960/t2r50zs94 Miscellaneous

62 of her hymns were published in the following, identified with a T (for her pen name Theodosia)
Ash, John and Evans, Caleb. A Collection of Hymns Adapted to Public Worship. Bristol, 1769. I haven't found a scan of the first edition, but a scan of the 1778 3rd edition is available here:

Thanks, Wade!

I've added a first pass OCR of the three volume set to https://github.com/willf/steele-poetry

The text is not quite as good. The OCR does pretty well, but not great, with the long s, and the continuation words at the end of pages are a bit off. It was easy to delete what are blank pages, but it did attempt to OCR them sometimes, to hilarious results. For example:

CONTENTS

1. The blood
2. The pads on the head
3. The covering of the skin
4. The pulse
5. The pulse of the heart
6. The pulse of the lungs
7. The pulse of the stomach
8. The pulse of the liver
9. The pulse of the spleen
10. The pulse of the kidneys
11. The pulse of the muscles
12. The pulse of the bones
13. The pulse of the blood
14. The pulse of the heart
15. The pulse of the lungs
16. The pulse of the stomach
...

and so on to item 226. Creepy!

loving this, in all its peaks and valleys--  great "Contents"!
--just bumping into some lesser known, really interesting and appealing hymns attributed to Anne Steele in 1809 collection in most recent days; became curious but didn't pursue--
timely appearance of her works here from you!

thank you!

WIll has emailed me to say that my post went only to him; I don't understand that -- I clearly picked "Reply-All".
Here it i anyhow:

In 2020, I transcribed the first two volumes of her poetical works, and added several indices. I offered them to CCEL, and they were stored there. Here are the links - CCEL's indices are messed up.
I also transcribed Volume 3, Miscellaneous Pieces in Verse and Prose, but did not prepare indexes. The pdf is searchable; I would be glad to supply it to anyone who asks.

An update: I found the third volume, Miscellaneous Pieces in Verse and Prose, at CCEL. I found all of these using web searches.
