I'm curious if anyone has access to or memory of Samuel Holyoke's Columbian Repository of Sacred Harmony
([Exeter, N.H.]: from the press of Henry Ranlet, 1803). I would be particularly interested in knowing about the prefatory matter. Trawling HTI has revealed that a tunebook I'm working with adopts a lot of rather esoteric repertoire from
Columbian Harmony, but in most cases under different tune names. This leads me to wonder whether the introduction of that book, which is something of a mystery to me, may also be drawing on Holyoke.
I fear that there may be some unknown intermediary source that was mediating the two--ah well.
(Yes, we have a copy at UK. . . but I'm in Missouri : P)
Thanks for any thoughts,
E. Fulton.
