In my research for my latest article, I came across this gem [1]:

Wesley's Journal, 4th October 1738, reads thus: '1.30 at Dr. Watts. Conversed. 2.30 walked, singing conversed'. Gordon Rupp (10) comments, 'there is the picture of them walking under the trees, two plain, trim little men, singing to one another their own and other people's hymns'. Charles Wesley, the other great giant of eighteenth century hymn writing, was there as well - quite an occasion!

...except: Watts' "infirmity" for thirteen years until his death in 1748 seems something of an argument against this pleasant vision...
