Committee notes from 3.6 Farm Hack meeting

Hi there - we are getting close to the event. Likely one more meeting to solidify things - please continue to spread the word to farmers, builders, bikers, engineer, designer folk.

Meeting notes: please add if I left stuff out, there was a lot more discussion than what I captured here...please read to make sure. If you are able to help in an area we need help on, please let us know here. 

Attendees: Emily Duma, Stefan Meyer, Kristy Allen, Lindsay Rebhan, Robin Lee, Kyle Johnson

Event Space:

We met up at Freewheel, walked the spaces, identified areas for large group and small group sessions, thought about how lunch would work, met Karl honey extractor builder and our go-to bike mechanic for the day. 

Midtown Greenway Coalition has agreed to open their office for us the entire day. We will use that space for keynote/intro to farm hack and any large group. They have a projector screen. 

We can use the office across from Greenway Coalition, hallway corners and the bike center for break out sessions.

We will set up any bike machines in the bike center. 

We'll invite Homegrown Minneapolis, Midtown Greenway Coalition, Hack Factory, PRI Cold Climate to table. Also one table for farmers/beekeepers to display any literature. 

We'll have 2 poster areas, 1 to display some existing designs from Farm Hack, 1 for people to write their names, farming needs, skills need, skills/resources wanted.

Still not super clear how lunch will work - if it's nice we can go out but if we stay inside people might just need to spread out all over. 

Working Agenda:

10 Social, welcome, coffee, walk around visuals on walls, check out bike demos

10:30 Farm Hack Intro & Keynote  - Grant Schultz

11:00 Farming Needs - Small Groups for what we are designing for, building for, challenges we need solutions for - butcher paper/markers

11:30 Groups choose speaker to tell large group the highlights of the discussion. 

12:15 Lunch  (Hack Factory make a plug for their tools/workshops/resources/MinneFaire)

1:00pm Design Charrettes  (2 sessions, so people can switch) 

• Adapting Bikes/Specific Bike Builds (Honey extractor, Bike truck, Bike tractor) Kristy and Karl
• Gather around a topic (water, compost, processing, cultivating)
• Open Hacks 

3pm Check back in as a big group - Report on Designs, Insights, Ideas,

Follow up:

Add to RSVP message and Facebook event: Bring a mug/waterbottle and handkerchief to minimize event waste. (Lindsay and Emily) If we have other bikes, invite folks to bring frozen fruit for bike smoothies on break?

Identify elements of break out sessions, what people should be working towards, print off for groups (Stefan)

Go through FarmHack and identify some designs we want to print off and post on the walls (Stefan)

Invite Spokes folks. (Stefan)

Confirm with Freewheel if we set up night before or morning of (Kristy)

Invite Homegrown Minneapolis (Jane Shey) to table space (Kristy)

Find a few more bike mechanic/hack factory builders (Kristy)

Find a couple more bike mechanics for event (Emily)

Post to FB, sustag and urban farm list serve one more time. Also PRI's media outlets. (Emily) 

Talk with Grant about keynote/farm hack intro, bring computer test internet connection (Lindsay)

Confirm all event plans with Midtown Greenway Coalition (Lindsay)

Follow up with reporter (Lindsay)

Email Dave Bryan about making plug at event and get a poster to him (Lindsay)

Talk with Midwest Hydroponics about water resource people (Lindsay)

Need Volunteers for:

Picking up Peace Coffee (Emily's roommates)

Picking up sandwiches 9am day of event

Setting up event (Farm Hack organizers)

Clean up at 4pm
