Hey Robyn and Kerem - I am making an official virtual intorduction to the two of you. Robyn - Kerem is with the team of Stanford students I spoke to you about re: probeware and Agricultural software.Kerem - Vernier (and one of the partners, Robyn Johnson) is the person I mentioned on our phone call in July who works for this fabulous company.Kerem - a link to their products is below
Robyn - this is a description of the project Kerem and his team are working on - because of you agricultural work, I thought you may be able to clarify, help or be a resource to this ambitious project - let the conversations begin! Chris--Who we areFarmulate is a team of Stanford students building a set of tools to help farmers manage their operations. As students of business, agriculture, and computer science, we're combining our backgrounds to develop software that decreases the burden of data collection while making a farmer's data easily accessible and useful. We envision a product that will allow farmers to plan their production, track their inputs, and manage their finances while integrating real time data on weather and market prices. With all their data aggregated on one platform, farmers will be able to use Farmulate to generate reports regarding the profitability of operations and streamline the time consuming process of complying with reporting requirements. We're passionate about resource efficiency and agriculture, and we want to help farmers devote their most precious resource, their time, to the activities that matter most. What we could use your help withWe'd like to interview farmers about how they currently manage their operations in order to inform the features of the software we're developing. We'd like to talk with a variety of farmers: new and experienced, small, medium and large scale, non-organic and organic, and those with varying levels of technological integration. The questions we're most interested in answering:- How do you plan and track production?- What data do you track and reference on a daily, weekly, monthly basis?- How do you track and assign costs to a given crop?- How do you measure the profitability of certain crops?- What aspects of your operations are most time consuming?- What information do you collect from third parties (e.g., soil test data) and how does it inform operational decisions?

Yes, he could give us a good intro to sensors – particularly around types available, cost, compatibility, etc… This would be useful in any biz model presentation as sensor companies are the biggest competitor to our vision.
