A victim of the broken handpicked rule (no longer able to use, and existing containers with HP rules seem to be borking -- content disappearing)

I am searching for some quick alternatives... as the site seems to be literally falling apart on me (not sure why all of the sudden containers that had handpicked rules are not displaying any content.)

We used handpicked rules extensively throughout our site to pick mixed content types and order them however we saw fit, select webskins,,... it was awesome..

Geoff says... "but folks should really look at building simple custom rules to replace this feature, or dispensing with containers altogether. ..."

Is there an example rule I can find to base some quick and dirty fixes? I assume i have to make one for each content type, but is it possible to use some sort of library picker and select a webskin?

Also, Geoff, what does this mean? "or dispensing with containers altogether."

If your underlying content types all have a common display then making a single handpicked rule for all of them would be trivial.  The real issue is the need for an "extended array" property that allows for multiple values in the array (beyond a pointer to the object and its sequence), namely the webskin or view for the content item.  Do all these content types share displayTeaserStandard as a view?

Also, Geoff, what does this mean? "or dispensing with containers altogether."

This is probably a more in depth discussion about content strategy, and approaches in FarCry that might need a thread all its own.

Extended arrays (or whatever the handpicked rule bug is) isn't fixed in 7.0 yet, it's on my todo list... :)

cheers,
Justin

Hi Justin,

farcry 7

I'm getting 404 error when I click on change password or Preview Webtop Security

Admin >users>changepassword

Admin >users>Preview Webtop Security

core\webskin\dmProfile\webtopBody.cfm

If i set bWebtop=false then working fine, then I see farcry toolbar in footer

<skin:onReady>

<cfoutput>

$fc.openDialog('Edit Password', '#application.fapi.getLink(type="farUser",objectid="#stUser.objectid#", view="webtopPageModal", bodyView="editPassword", ampDelim="&", bWebtop=true)#');

</cfoutput>

</skin:onReady>

Looks like these 2 dialogs had broken URLs when friendly URLs were turned on so I've removed the use of getLink to generate these URLs for now, should work if you update to the latest commit on trunk.

Handpicked Rule fixed:

Still needs a bit of styling but should be fully functional.

Enjoy,

@Chris: the "fix" for the handpicked rule today ways to remove the extended array table component "farcrycms/packages/types/ruleHandpicked_aObjects.cfc". Perhaps you could check if that was present in the plugin in your FarCry 6.2.x installation and try removing it?
