Hi. I have a RX 6800 XT, and ever since I bought this thing the **bleep** drivers keep crashing while I watch videos on my web browser, independent of what website it is. It will happen on it's own whether I have only the browser open with no other apps on the background or if I have another app open with the browser playing the video on the background. The screen will go black for an entire minute and then resume working, as adrenalin will ask me to file a crash report, which I have been sending whenever it happens to no avail whatsoever. If it happens while I have a game open, the game will usually crash. It does not happen as often with streaming websites. Current driver version is 22.8.2, but this has been happening ever since 22.3.1 when I got the GPU.

I've had hardware acceleration disabled on my browser for about a week now, and I still get drivers crashing daily while watching videos, and the cherry on top is that now, after updating to version 22.9.1, whenever I'm playing a game, my audio and video will occasionally get hard stuck and force me to hard reboot the computer.

Not 100% so far but I have had the same issues but this has at least decreased the problem, it not fixed it. (Cross your fingers.)

Turn off the hardware acceleration in all your background apps like chrome, discord, battlenet, etc.

Bought 6900XT and for months have had the same issue. I can game with no issues but sometimes while watching video (usually YouTube) the screen will just go black for about a minute. Have tried numerous "fixes" from these forums but clearly it's an AMD driver issue. Can't wait for the new Nvidia cards so I can dump this $1K piece of junk.

YUP! I also have a RX 6800 XT and I get the exact same thing. I'm all the way back to 22.6.1 because of this issue with the last two drivers. Browser crashes, video crashes and random system reboots.

I agree there are issues with the drivers. Just make sure you go through all your programs and shut off the HW acceleration and see if it helps. My system is flawless now for 3 days before was crashing maybe a few times a day.

Mine triggers especially on whatsapp videocalls its ridicilous and windows 11 22h2 is around the corner they yet to fix the installer for that, and yes if had black screens triggered on windows 11 21h2 as well and XMP turned off within 1 minute even when 22h2 option to optimise windowed games is turned on.

These seem a little odd to me as my CPU is i7-6700HQ which is a skylake and my understanding is that these are for different CPUs? I followed the instructions here prior as in the past I had warnings regarding my CPU family.

Compare the error message you are receiving by update-initramfs or update-grub to find the missing driver. In your example the message was "/lib/firmware/i915/kbl_guc_ver9_14.bin" so you are missing the Kabylake GuC called: kbl_guc_ver9_14.bin in the web page shown above. You don't want the newer one: kbl_guc_ver9_39.bin

I've had two warning messages on missing i915 drivers for Kernel's 4.6.3, 4.7.1, 4.7.2, 4.7.3 and 4.7.5. I've ignored them and things have been fine with my HD4000 Intel Integrated Graphics. I wish the same thing could be said about Nvidia and Nouvaeu.

As one answer in your link stated you can go to Intel's website to get most up-to-date Linux Graphics drivers at: intel-linux-graphics-firmwares. However when I read that site a few weeks ago I was concerned with all the possible things that can go wrong under different scenarios so I opted out.

Did you install 4.8 release candidate 6 from September 24th? That's the most current in Ubuntu I believe. You don't have to answer but I'm curious why you went with 4.8 instead of 4.7.5, ie what the differences are you need to fix things.

Now using kernel version 4.8.1 (real version and not release candidate) for over a week and things are working nicely. This is under Ubuntu 16.04 though. Ubuntu 16.10 was released October 13th and it is using Kernel version 4.8.0 I believe.

Now running Kernel version 4.9.5 mainline version which at this time Ubuntu 16.04 has updated it's kernel to 4.4.0-59. Intel changed it's link for Intel Graphics for Linux drivers and I updated the new link above.

The program "hello" is a 504 byte assembler program that says "Hello World!". You can copy any small executable to the firmware binaries given in the error messages. When Intel eventually releases them the software updater will replace them with the real versions.

Look at your warnings using a terminal window (terminal, PuTTY, etc. or on the local machine) then for each one click the link in Intel's git page using a web browser (which brings up a hex dump of the file), copy the link location from the plain button above the dump, go back to the terminal and wget this link.

Throwing caution to the winds and having a recent full backup I decided I'd try creating bogus null files that the update-initramfs process was complaining about. I copied its error messages to a temporary file (e.g. mytempfile and using one of my text editors (think vi, mcedit, sed, etc.)changed the lines from e.g.W: Possible missing firmware /lib/firmware/i915/bxt_dmc_ver1_07.bin for module i915

This process will create a null zero-sized file for each of the missing .bin files. When/If an update is pushed which contains new updated .bin files, it will overwrite the null files we just created.

Maybe it's possible that firmware could be missing if it hasn't been added to linux-firmware yet, but at least on my machine at the moment (with an 11th gen Intel CPU), all of the firmware I need is in linux-firmware.

Old user of an nvidia GTX 1080 ti. Performance was decent but a lot of stuttering when turning and opening the map.
Recently I could afford to get an upgrade to an RX 6900 XT from Sapphire and expected at least a bit more performance, but to my surprise, it was the other way around. Performance seemed to plummet and being a new AMD GPU user, could not understand why.
Usual tricks found online did not seems to fix anything for Guild Wars 2 client performance, like turning off Fast Startup, making sure the temperatures are low enough, drivers updates, etc.
GPU temperature never goes above 45 Celsius and Hotspot temperature never above 55 Celsius. Latest drivers, etc, etc.
To cherry on top that made me look harder for a solution was entering alone in the Cold War Strike instance and discovering I had 25-30 FPS standing still.
Indeed, I had all the setting cranked to the max. But they were the same as with my old GTX 1080 ti.

To not make this post longer than it needs to, this is what I did to make my Guild Wars 2 client perform a lot better.
Figured out what is the maximum speed and the boost speed of my GPU.
Open AMD's Radeon Software, click on Performance top right then click Tuning.
On this page, on the right side click on Add Game Profile button and select Guild Wars 2 from the list.
Now, on the same page, but on the left side click on Global Tuning button and select Guild Wars 2.
Enable GPU Tuning and under it enable Advanced Control.
Set it up like in this image, being careful to input a reasonable minimum and maximum frequency.
In my case, the numbers are taken from the Sapphire's website for my specific model. Do the same for yours.

Only after doing this my Guild Wars 2 client performed better.
In Cold War Strike where I was getting 25-30 FPS while being alone, now I get 60 FPS. This instance is an outlier and that is why I chose it as an example. In my Home Instance I get over 200+ FPS while facing some directions and lower while facing others, but never 25-30 FPS.
Even so, my GPU barely gets used and GPU power usage barely hits 180W, but then again I have to remember this is DX9 (not using DX11).
Conclusion: AMD's drivers are being written in a dark room lit only by a candle, by a blind man without a keyboard.

The DX9 mode of GW2 can cause GPU utilisation issues on RDNA and RDNA2 GPUs. The GPU will enter the idle state and run at 700 to 900 MHz causing low frame rates and heavy stuttering. This is known for 2 years and it has nothing to do with the AMD driver. AMD can't fix it because there is nothing to fix for them.

What you have done is increasing the minimum 3D frequency of your GPU to 2.3 GHz, so your GPU can no longer adjust its clock speeds and power consumption in 3D applications. You might have already noticed that this does not fix the stuttering issue. Your frame rates are higher now, but the frame pacing is still unplayable and you are still nowhere near the performance your GPU could reach in the game.

Btw. the AMD overlay does not work correctly in the DX11 mode. You have to minimize the game then enable the overlay and maximize the game again or the overlay will flicker hard. Before blaming AMD for this too: GW2 is the one and only DX11 game I played in the last few years, that has this issue.
