When analyzing account performance we like to use the pivot table function in Excel. However importing data from MT4 and pasting it into excel and building up the formulas needed is a bit time consuming if you are doing it over and over again. We have therefore developed an excel template that by only a few clicks imports data from mt4stats.com and lets you analyze the data using the pivot table function.

We have decided to share this template for free with the readers of this blog. The template can be downloaded here:

MT4 Stats Analysis Sheet version 1.0

The template can be used by anyone who is trading with the Metatrader 4 platform, whether you trade manually or with EA:s.

User instructions
If you wish to analyze your own account, please follow these instructions:

First ensure that Excel is using dot [.] and not comma [,] as decimal separator. This setting is adjusted in Excel Options/Advanced/Decimal Separator.

1. Clear all contents in column A to N in the worksheet “MT4 stats”
2. Select Data/Get external data/From Web
3. Place the marker in cell A1
4. Type in your mt4stats page address (for more info: http://www.mt4stats.com/)
5. Select the table with all the data, just above the “Account:xx****”. The yellow arrow should turn into a green box with a tick
6. Press import and then OK
7. Go to the worksheet “Pivot” and right click in the pivot table and click Refresh

Your data should now be stored in the pivot table and you are able to play around with it. If you are an advanced excel user you can play around with the data as you wish. If you are not used to use Pivot tables we should recommend you to do the following to see how your account performs.

Report filter: Use the field “Buy/Sell” and set it to 1 on order to filter out irrelevant data

Column labels: Use primarily the field “Pair” here to filter out the performance of each currency pair.

Row labels: Use one of the following fields: “Ticket”, “Open hour”, “Date”, “Weekday”, “Week”, “Month”

Values: Use either “Total profit” (which is the sum of commission, swap and profit), Profit, or Pips (which is the number of pips gained or lost in each trade). Make sure that data is summarized by Sum and not Count.

We think its better to only have one field at the time in Row labels, column labels and values, to avoid the matrix becoming too messy. Also use the “Chart” worksheet to visualize the results in a bar chart

We hope that this template will help you gain more insight about your account performance and most important of all, saving you a lot of time when performing the analysis.

In the future we intend to make some improvements such as adding the ability to analyze the length of each trade (which is very relevant in scalping and benchmarking brokers against each other) and adjusting the data calculation so that all trades done from for example Monday 21:00 GMT to Tuesday 04:00 GMT will be represented by the Monday date since they belong to the same trading session.

If you find this template useful, please let us know. If you have any questions, please post them in the comments section since your question might be relevant for other users.

Good luck in your trading!
