The Acolyte abruptly stood, and quickly left the communications room. Striding purposefully to the Clerics office. Saluting fist to chest, he made report. ”My Cleric, the Monks of the Genetic Inquisition may be needed. It seems some remnant species has jump capabilities, and seems to have issued a galactic challenge.” The Cleric dismissed the Acolyte, and quickly commed his Bishop. A holo image of Bishop First Class Thompson appeared. ”Yes Cleric?” inquired the holographic apparition. ”Sir, we have evidence of more remnant sentients, they have jump capabilities.” Stated the Cleric. The Bishop smilled. Another Chance to bring enlightenment and truth to another world, and better still, another opportunity to perhaps genetically sequence a new strain of the Spark bringing true Divinity to the Brotherhood. ”Inform the Inquisition Cleric, it appears we have some need for continued scouting, and more warships, many more.”

Chuweek groomed her facial fur and whiskers nervously as she awaited the all clear from Chief Artisan Lulchvin. There was no ned to think there would be any difficulty, but Project Boojum was her responsibility as Prime Scientist, and its funding had stirred up a bit of controversy in the Senate. She was also a bit nervous abut the presence of the alien observer.
“No, she thought to herself, 'NOT an alien. A fellow PSL member now.” She was happy that the Mericans had joined with the Roko in their commonwealth, but the sheer size still made many of the Roko a bit nervous, including her she had to admit. Plus, the near naked faces were still a bit unsettling. This one, at least, had some bits of fur on his face, however slight. Konnar was how he styled himself, and she reminded herself to us the odd title “Doctor” when addressing him.
Her thoughts turned back to the project that waited only on the final approval from the Chief Artisan before powering up for the first time. There had already been several attempts at listening in on the cosmos before, all from scattered radio telescopes on Chekrit. This would be the first time that a multi-band array would be in use from orbit, however. It was clear that with the discovery of the Mericans and the Zamans that intelligent life was far more prevalent in the galaxy than the philosopher-scientists had suspected, and the Senate had voted to fund a much more comprehensive search. It wasn't from idle curiosity alone that Project Boojum had been funded - there was a defense component as well. The presence of Group Commander Talchik in the main observation and control deck showed that the PSL military forces took this seriously as well.
“All is in readiness, Scientist Chuweek” came the voice of Lulchvin over the comm from the main deck below. “You may initiate systems at full power and bring the processing nodes online.” With a bit of a thrill she issued the required commands into the terminal in front of her, then glancing at the two others next to her replied “Thank you Chief. Committing activation sequence...now”. She pressed the execute key and waited as the system spooled up. The results were almost immediate and not at all waht she expected. Streams of data began to scroll by and the excited voice of one of the technicians below came across the comm. “Multiple sources of hyper-wave transmissions detected! We are recording now, but the initial probability that they are non random is estimated at 99%!” Stunned, she glanced at Doctor Konnar and saw that his naked face was much lighter pink than usual, and he locked eyes with her for a moment, mirroring her astonishment. To her left, she saw that Group Commander Talchick was talking rapidly and quietly into his private comm device.
It seemed that, not only were they not alone, there were other hyperspace capable beings out there. The possibilities were most exciting...and frightening as well. She braced herself for a very busy day and, she suspected, an even busier season ahead.
