Fannie, Freddie stocks open higher after Mnuchin's remarks

NEW YORK Shares of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac opened higher on Wednesday, reaching their highest levels in more than a month after U.S. Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin said the Trump administration will take up reform of the two mortgage finance agencies in the latter half of 2017.

Fannie Mae's stock price was up over 3 percent at $2.94 a share, while Freddie Mac shares were 3 percent higher at $2.77.

Well he's being consistent about the second half of the year and I guess that leads me to believe he will beat the zero capital deadline with a plan...so it makes some sense we are moving up...he has already said all this. I find it hard to believe yesterday's big move was because of ICBA white paper...wondering if something else is going on that we haven't heard or seen yet...

When I spoke to "Nooch" last night, I suggested he say something "nice" to make Joseph S, G. Buckman, and MrF feel better.

The latter reports that his favorite sheep and cow produced more wool and milk this morning than at anytime in the last month and his turkeys produced double the usual amount of eggs. (Shh, nobody tell him they are hens.)

If not careful the tax reform will trigger zero capital when it kicks in and reduce ongoing profits by directly attacking the real estate market via eliminating the mortgage interest write-off.

Mortgage interest is still there. Standard deduction may go up. Good for me....

Well..... I watched the clip. A few times. Watch it. He shrugs while saying it then grimaces at the end. He knows that they wont get anything done in Congress. All Mnuchin. All admin action.

It was clear to me. I watched it several times. He knows they do nothing. He knows

Nine years?! What's four more months.

CJ - Yes, Mnuchin knows. Congress spends a lot of time meeting wonderful people in their district and welcoming wonderful people to Wash. DC and giving tours. Nothing ever happens there.

Trump can't flatulate without a flurry and a judicial injunction....if the courts don't come through, we are done.

No. If courts don't cone through we are not close to being done. The courts are just for justice and fairness and all that jive. We win in the courts we see big gains now. If we lose, there is still the conversion into the utility win. NWS is a major battle but it does not define the WAR. The war plan is Moelis and the outcome is most likely moelis or a similar plan...go figure...devil

Eh. Most of us used to think court win. Now we think admin action. I think admin now, too

Mnuchin just said "2018" when asked about F&F at the politico conference...

...which is disappointing considering  that the companies have zero own capital on January 1, 2018, and he confirmed again that he expects the dividends to be paid....

...but he said as well that a blue print for tax reform exists and it will come out the week of the 25 th of september.... so if everything is conjoined, perhaps behind closed doors they're closer to a solution for F&F too.

"Mnuchin just said "2018" when asked about F&F at the politico conference..."

What was the question?

The interviewer was asking about the intentions of the administration for Fannie and Freddie.... Mnuchin first praised himself for being experienced in this area (housing market), he then said they "need to be fixed" and the 30 yr mortgage needs to be preserved, but as tax refrom is on the agenda now, F&F realistically are an issue of 2018. He was not specific about any details, as usual. Just said the same words about expecting the dividends to be paid, and that he had a lof of conversations with Mel Watt. Nothing new really, except he switched from second half of 2017 to 2018.
No link to the full video on the politico website currently it seems, I watched it live, so everything is from my memory.
