Hello friends,

I am pleased to invite you to the Phnom Penh opening of Garment Work at Meta-House, the German
Cambodian cultural institution (http://www.meta-house.com/).

Garment Work (2010) was conducted in residence at the Leipziger Baumwollspinnerei, formerly one of
the largest textile mills in the world. It slowed operation in 1989 and housed artist studios, when the
import of textiles to Germany increased. The video distills 34 hours and 36 minutes of labor into a ten-
hour video of a durational performance, when the artist took apart a pair of jeans with her bare hands
under the contemporary conditions of the former factory. The installation includes the jeans’
constituent elements and a Tagebuch, a reference to the Brigadebucher, diaries of sociopolitical life
under the GDR. Garment Work is a meditation on capitalism, integrity, loss, and perseverence.

I will give a short talk at the opening event and related short documentaries will be screened.
